Search police

Get rid of the goons attacking anyone asking a question by giving them a "you shoulda searched" reply. Its totally uncalled for and makes the forum look like a joke. The only accomplishment is pissing off any new members that may actually have something to contribute.

If you would have done a search you would have found that this was recently discussed in-depth.

while i think most here would agree that just search bashing every noob on here is a bit much, in reality who is going to sit around and take part in pages long thread with a newbie who is only rehashing things that there are dozens of excellent threads on already? you? i doubt it. i for one dont know more than a coulpe folks on here willing to go around asnwering all the stupid/repeat questions the forum gets. i'll occasionally provide a link to all the information they need, or guide them in the right direction, but no one has the patience or lack of a real life to simply restate things that have been discussed a thousand times just because someone logs on here looking for a total handout...

Here's an idea.....let the post simmer for a little while before jumping down their throat. Not all questions are the same. If you see a post that has been beaten to death...let it float away. Bam, done. Till then, you just have a 30 hot topics, all of which are people with 2 pages of "search *******, someone asked that before".

If people dont get a reply....typically they begin to dig deeper, and all is well. Ive seen numerous technical questions that were never asked, and a simple "search your manual" answer given. WTF? They didnt come here for some jackass to give a smartass reply....they came here for help.

So what you are suggesting is that when someone comes here and needs some information, they need answers, they need a fix............you just want us to let them hang and wait........."simmer"........meanwhile they get frustrated lacking an answer?

Dang........stringing them along like that seems cruel.......seems like a simple "search" comment is the merciful thing to do by comparison.

exactly. most of the time its the same people, trying to get their post count up i guess to make them seem more "knowledgeable". they must sit around thinking to themselves "this is my chance , again, to tell someone to search...yes +1 on count!" This is where the problem comes up is when its the same people over and over again. IMO i think if they had lives and were actually out there driving their cars or working on them they wouldnt post anything with the word "search" in it.

which leads any, somewhat, intelligent person to find another means of meeting and over coming their problem, which in this case would to use the search option...and if they cant come to that conclusion they dont deserve to have the answer.

Yup, several people here should take a month or two off, and let people help others.

By letting it "simmer", someone who knows the answer may come along and say hey...I needed help with that a while back, time to return the favor.

I search the hell out of anything I'm potentially going to ask. And to be honest, 10 times out of 10, I've found it. I'm still a noob in post count and longevity, but I've been around forums enough to know that if they've been up a decent amount of time (such as this one) odds are rather high that it's been discussed somewhere. What makes it worse are the folks who say they don't have time to search...

Ah.

So now in addition to stringing people along and allowing people with legitimate questions to dangle without getting their questions answered............now we really will be the Search Police and deem them as being undeserving to have the question answered in the first place?

Wow.....again, that seems a lot more cruel than just saying "Search"

but that is never you!

say, you have helped no one..

you are disgruntled because no one bought your chrome pitch..

yet you attack as you know something about the workings of this forum, amazing in your ~20 days of membership..

btw, i lurked for 6 months before i bought the car and posted..

and let others help others,,, that is a joke right now,, like you posts. there is so much advice that is WRONG, and somehow you are not helping..

why is that?

you are like a troll with malice. you know enough not to get caught..

normally i would be up you.. but really you bore me..

the mods are on to you.. so, post up!

give that useful advice. show us what you know and how you can help others.

gfl!

I'd be happy if he'd just link to one post where someone said "search *******"

But......I have a feeling he might get a little upset if I ask him to search.

yes. haha, but we have not deemed them undeserving, they have done that themselves with pure ignorance.

That's how it should work. Sit back and let those of us who learned from the old timers pass on what we've learned. Hostile "search noob" responses put off both the new guy and the newly educated.

I've posted this before..."Search, noob" posts remind me of the Marine DI who, after 20 years, screamed "Don't you guys ever learn?" at his latest batch.

We have two problems here. There are the people that are post whoring and shouting search to inflate their post count to make them look more important. It is crude & rude and should be avoided. I do try to remind members of this intermittantly when it starts getting out of hand. And then there are the noobs that don't want to take the time to try to find the the post that will answer their question.
When I started coming to this site, I spent a month reading before I even got a login. After that, I was still spending so much time catching up that you could have counted the number of my posts on one hand. More need to follow this path.

ha ha ha this thread makes me laugh, i never really saw why this was a problem, why do people take it so poorly when a member tells them to search? thats like getting someone to do all of your homework in college, man if it was that easy i would go back to college in a sec. often times when people search they find additional information on the subject of interest.

It's purely about post count.

These goons seem to think it's worth their time to post a nasty comment about the need to search but don't think it's worth their time to do the quick search themselves and post two or three links to threads answering the question.

It's rather simple. If you don't want to at least link them to the answer and only want to tell them to search, just don't reply. I've spent a lot of time on many different forums and have racked up tens of thousands of posts across them all (even moderated a few)...not once have I ever seen a forum that was so bad as those here on this subject.
