Longer cookie life

I don't know if it is the cookies or not, but don't you just hate it when you click on New Posts: 350, it will show you a result page with just 17 threads? This happens all the time for me. Or when the first time I open the site, and it doesn't finish up. So I hit refresh, and it finally loads the entire site but New Posts will be like 25 or 30; and I haven't logged in for more than 12 hours.

Also, when it does show me the right amount of new posts, by the time I get to page 3 some of the topics have already been marked "Read" or not bolded. What's up with that? I haven't even read the threads, yet it marks them as read already.

This doesn't happen on other forums I am on that uses phpBB. There's gotta be a setting where you admins could fix this. It's getting really annoying.

:nono:

I agree on what he said. It gets more annoying when you haven't been on the site for a couple of days and is forced to go over 2000+ new posts as quickly as possible before it timed out.

Or the damn computer decides to shut down and update while you're doing something and you return to the site to see 13 new posts instead of 1300!

Bump... since nothing has been done to this issue. It's really annoying to see new posts at the higher 100's and then seeing only one new post after clicking the link. Cookie needs a longer shelf life. Look up on other forums using vbulletin on how they avoid this issue. Is someone really maintaining this site or is it just running by itself?

It's not a cookie lifetime problem. That happens because when the page begins loading, it reads the old cookie information then updates the cookie with the current time. Then you wait 5 minutes and decide to hit refresh. So it reads the cookie again, sees that you were just here 5 minutes ago, and so it only displays new threads since then.

The solution is to not hit refresh.

^ Wrong. Did I even mention Refresh? I go to many forums, and this is the only one that has this problem. It's not even refreshing. I go to a thread and all of a sudden, my new posts number has been reduced to 15 instead of 150 or more.

And by the way, it's more complicated than just the cookie looking at time.
