Image attachment size?

Did anyone else notice the file size for images has changed. It used to be around 250k, but now is only around 145k. Pics are hugely beneficial to this forum, why the downsize?

Because admin have big plans for the forum, so they spent lots of money and got some new servers and are going to impliment a bunch of neat new features. At least that was the story many months ago. One of those features must be reduced attachment size. Neat eh?

I can't post picture so have to hot link everything. No restrictions there.

If you are gonna waste bandwidth, at least do it with flair!

150K is more than enough for any web images. It's not the storage here that's a problem, it's the cross-linking that kills performance here. People who upload attachments here and then link them all over the net, that's what sucks our bandwidth.

Well, you should be able to forbid hotlinking - that would prevent this...

Kidding aside, linking to an image hosted on another site doesn't use up bandwith on THIS site, right? Just on the hosting?

My link was to illustrate a point. Maniac was just being funny. Neither one degrades the performance of this site...it's just a pain to scroll over to see the entire image is all.

You don't understand my point.
Ryan meant that the fact that people upload their images here and then hotlink from other sites is what degrades performance of this site. This is what he should be able to prevent by prohibiting direct hotlinking to the RX8club attachments.

I understand your point now, thanks for the clarification. I agree with you 100%.

Yeah, there are safety features that prevent people from linking to pictures here and using them on other sites. For example, I'm sure everyone has seen a photo of the "tripod" icon where someone tried to link a photo from a tripod owned site and they did not allow it to be linked. Another example would be when I was banned for ****... the site I linked from turned the photo into a ***** with a parrot on it. I was not impressed.
