Ban Users From Thread
Tired of seeing good threads going down the tubes due to senseless banter (i.e. Bridgeport thread).
Not sure if this is already in place, but may be VERY useful: http://www.vbulletin.org/forum/showthread.php?t=183183 |
Yes - because we all know that silencing people is the only way to get a free and open discourse.
|
Great idea...ban everyone that doesn't agree with your POV...
Or maybe throw them in jail ;) |
That option is only available to the Admins and I don't believe it has been used to date.

*sigh* typical rx8club responses.
Gentlemen, take the time to reread my post namely "due to senseless banter" Too many good threads these days get way off track due to Mr X's and Mr Y's with 10 posts walking in and targeting certain users in an intent to spark up an argument. Case and point Jeff you and Charles's name drop in that thread when someone was bitching about Team. That then caused a whole page of stupid arguments regarding shit that was no where near on topic. With the drop in prices in the 8 we are seeing more and more immature people walking in here dicking around in threads causing arguments. It is one thing to have a POV ... it is a totally other thing to have no point at all, and this is what I was hoping there was some easy way to resolve. That option is only available to the Admins and I don't believe it has been used to date. |

Bad behavior on the part of a few will, on the other hand, shut it down. Most know how to behave, some however, do not and deserve to be removed from the theater by the ushers. |

Yes indeed; quite glad you picked up on this so quickly. Whether attending a lecture, class, city-council meeting, theater, musical performance, or standing in a group chatting, appropriate silence is key to free and open discourse!
More importantly - this is not an open, polyphonic discussion. It is a message board and the content is delivered serially. We each have the individual ability to virtually stick our fingers in our virtual ears at any point in any thread.

Ok cool gotcha. Maybe MM and D misunderstood me, I meant for this to be an admin only thing, not just freely distributed to people.
Try it - you'll like it (until you are ignoring everyone that bothers you and you suddenly realize that you are receiving no useful content at all). |
what about people that dont deliver what they sell ? they should be banned too..

It already is. It is called the "ignore button".

Fixed that for you. Perfect example of Godwin's Law as well. With certain people, anything other than blind acceptance and adoration of their comments is taken straight to a level of absurdity. Then again, thanks for the perfect QED for the "banter" mentioned by the OP above, which often drives interesting threads to a useless end. |

Do you really think that the role of an usher in a theater is in any way comparable to the actions of the Gestapo?

It would be faster to permaban most of the users.
Every fora is just like a manger. Some feed while most only have the brains to eat. Keeping bad animals outside would be a wise idea, but at that point there would be no need for a forum to exist. Skype would be enough! |

As noted above, this is not a theater. It is more analogous to the trading floor of the stock market.

I understand what OP is saying and having to sift through multi-page threads for information can be tedious. It also makes it harder for newbies to search and leads to more threads being created asking questions that we have answered many times.
However, I am a member in another forum and one of the vendors is also an administrator of the forum. He owes me $1,000 for an exhaust order which he never shipped. He won't reply to PMs and he also has the ability to close down any threads I start. So, I think it's best to leave things open. The internet is self regulating. The people who have nothing to contribute will be filtered out eventually. |
Funny, some of the stuff you think is OK comes across as the most inane tarded crap I have ever read.
The point being that opinions and viewpoints are like @ssholes. Not only do we all have our own, but someone somewhere probably thinks you are one too. |
