I saw RX8Club in the listing and it loads up just fine... however it appears to be set to not allow users to login via that app. (I get credential errors saying admin has disabled or i put in the wrong login/pass).

Just wondering if I should bother using Tapatalk or if what I'm seeing was remnants of something which will die a horrible forum death?

Our contact with the owners of the site says Tapatalk will not be used. Some sort of mobile version of the site is being worked on.

There's a Mazda RX8 Club that comes up in a search, but it is not for this site. It is for the Mazda RX-8 Club of Australia. That's probably why you can't log in.

update?

Snooze you loose...its the .au site. Tapatalk is awesome.

CrazyJek 08-29-2010 06:05 PM

I am actually very disappointed that the decision to not use Tapatalk is final. This could have been implemented a lomg time ago with very little effort and made many people happy as 85% of the smart phone population can use it. I know that the real reason is because of the lack of ads = less money... but who in gods name actually clicks ads in their phone. Not to mention that people accessing this forum on their phone has relatively no impact on the same people that will use it on the computer. When ur at home, why bother visit the site on the phone when u can type quicker, see more, hear better, and work quicker on the computer.

If the mobile site is for the ads, well, I won't be seeing them anyways as I have a script/ad blocker on my Incredible. This is a true shame. It really is. This could have been handled better.

laythor 08-29-2010 08:13 PM

the site owners get paid for ads they put up and click throughs ... even if you block the ad on your end they still get money for having it up. Can't blame IB for wanting to stay in business.

Would i rather have tapatalk, yep.

but you can blame them for giving us false hope, stating that they're "planning, hoping, rolling out" the mobile site the next coming week. i mean, come on, its been almost two months, maybe even more [not even going to bother checking the dates of the posts]

laythor 08-30-2010 02:37 AM

since it's an IB specific mobile app, it won't get a lot of use. are you really waiting to use it?

yes, because using the full site on a phone is just a pain in the ass!
as long as the mobile site addresses these issues from using the full site on a mobile device i plan on using it.
1. takes too long to load
2. very time consuming to navigate..even to the most basic areas on the forum
3. takes too long to post something [logging in, finding the thread, replying, ect.]
4. very difficult to read [constant zooming in and out of pages]

sometimes when your at meets or just browsing on the go [hehe FS section:ylsuper:] you need to update information on a meet thread or look up a DIY when a computer is not available.

of course i would use a computer when it is available but sometimes its not an option, and taking 10min to search for something that would probably take 1min on a computer really isn't practical.:cwm27:

fuztupnz 08-30-2010 08:16 AM

I have yet to see a mobile site that is well planned out and works well. For the most part, I usually give up and go back to the regular site even if it means zooming in and out to do what i need to. There are some decent ones out there, but keeping a design and page consistent between all the different mobile browsers out there is difficult, and even more so if you are trying to develop for touch screens and non-touch screens. This is what makes Tapatalk so awesome. they are formating to one standard. The app is them modified for the various platforms so it's always consistent and working.

I hope IB can come up with something useful. I have a feeling i'll just revert back to the regular page though.

I'm thankful that we have this forum that is free to us. I understand it's ad supported to keep it that way. I don't understand why they would waste time and money to create something that may end up being unused and sub-par to existing technology and available for free. I'm willing to give the mobile site a fair shot, but I don't have high hopes for the reasons stated above.

This thread was created on March 8th of this year. 5 months and 3 weeks ago. Zoom as quoted below started it.

I guess it's free for a forum to be a part of this, the administrator needs to instal some sort of server extension.... maybe it's worth looking into. I would enjoy easily surfing rx8club from my phone...

Post #15 was on April 12th of this year. About 4 months and 2 weeks ago.

So as you can see, nothing but time and money has been wasted for almost 5 months and many people have been disappointed. I, am very disappointed as i have trouble currently viewing this website on my Droid Incredible. This forum is the only website that reboots my phone when i try to reply to a thread. It is very difficult to navigate and a royal pain in the ass so i avoid it which is a real shame as Tapatalk would have been enjoyed by the masses. Tapatalk makes it so easy to keep all my forums organized with widgets on my phone... and almost every single phone can use it flawlessly. As stated before, consistent on all fronts.

But for some odd reason they would rather waste it all for a few ads that will most definitely not make any difference. I do not have high hopes as based on the way this was handled, it will be an epic fail.

Don't get me wrong, i love this website, and i love how it is a free community, but this was just done wrong on all fronts over and over again, time and time again. This thread could have been done with on the first page and solved in a day's work. Nope. Why make it that easy.

Detrich 08-30-2010 04:00 PM

tapatalk is dead and buried then?

tapatalk is working great for the yamaha motorcycle forum and bmw forum that i log into as well... was really hoping rx8club would get onboard...

:(

I realize that I was far too optimistic in my original post suggesting it would be out in a week. I definitely apologize for that, it's all on me.

We are making progress, a couple of smaller sites, and 1 larger one now have mobile sites set up.

RX8Club is now on the shortlist. We have a couple of kinks to work out, and then it will arrive.

To those suggesting our avoidance of Tapatalk is due to advertising, must not realize we can insert our own ad codes into Tapatalk too, but so can Tapatalk, meaning you could potentially could get hit doubly with ads, and nobody wants that.

cheers,
robb

Can we get a sample of those sites? Link?

i don't think anyone would really care if it meant we could have something up in a half hour... at the very least, as an interim solution.

fwiw i use tapatalk on other forums and i've never seen them insert any ads.

With all due respect, it seems that no one wants the mobile site and we all want tapatalk. If not, this thread would have been 3 posts long and buried by now.

alz0rz 08-31-2010 07:57 PM

well I tried to access 8club on my phone and was redirected to the mobile site. seems a bit slow and they really need to fix the marketplace forums. need page numbers in threads as well so we can jump directly to a page instead of hitting Next repeatedly..

fuztupnz 08-31-2010 08:43 PM

Posting from the mobile site! Thank you Robb for getting us something.

It needs polished and page numbers like alz0rs said. It's a little slow to load and there is a lot of vertical scrolling. This may be do to the huge ads between sections and at the top and bottom of the page. I'd imagine that some of this will be fixed for final release though. The members gallery at the top is wide and out of place and I'd prefer it wasn't there. Without it, page load will probably quicken up quite a bit.

With the negative out of the way, on to the positive. The layout is pretty nice and consistent with the main site. Threads at easy to read an the picture sizing is good. The navigation has a lot of potential an I don't feel like it's some hacked mobile site. The work put in shows.

With some clean up, smaller, less intrusive (read slow loading and huge) ads, this could be one of if bot the best mobile sites I've seen. So far it seems to be a great effort by IB. It will take quite a bit more work to get it to the level that tapatalk is aleady at, but it has potential.

Props to IB. Keep polishing, and you'll have a winner here!

dondo 08-31-2010 11:43 PM

How do you turn it off though? When I click normal version it keeps redirecting to mobile..

chelecuche 09-01-2010 12:11 AM

Posting from the mobile site, I like it...but the only thing that I really miss and want is the "new post" tab/link... and also when I'm viewing a tread I'm only able to pass to the next page one by one... but overall, is great, not slow for me and I'm on a motorolla droid...

dondo 09-01-2010 12:42 AM

The UserCP page needs a lot of work too. and it'd be nice to see who the last poster was, not just date/time

Jedi54 09-01-2010 01:10 AM

Posting through the mobile site, I normally hate mobile sites but this one has potential! :)

Quick thoughts:
- if I go to the normal site, it would be nice if it stopped asking me EVERY TIME I clicked on something to use the mobile site. That got old really quick.

- maybe it's just me but I don't see the top menu bar or how to access some of those drop downs such as new posts, todays posts, or user cp.

Twiztog43 09-01-2010 02:42 AM

awesome! finally!

also maybe you guys can implement the pages on the thread, and maybe "go to last page" button might help. i tried going to the SoCal lounge and it sends me to the first page. [nvm] found out clicking the time/date instead sends me to the last page.

auzoom 09-01-2010 02:52 AM

No mobile site from my iPhone. Still a PITA.

FoxeyL8y 09-01-2010 03:06 AM
