Removing panels to run wiring?

I am trying to run my Garmin GPS 18PC from the rear dash to the CLA plug in the center console. I want to drill a hole from the side of the console, underneath the silver panel that runs lengthwise along the console, but I can't figure out how to pull that panel off. It moves, and I can tuck the wire behind it and it holds it tightly. I can't seem to pull it off. The goal is to tap wires for the GPS directly into the 12v source behind the CLA so it turns on when the vehicle power comes on. Below is a picture of roughly what I want to do. Oh and I meant to type "drill wiring hole" not "hole wiring hole."

So, I guess the question is, does anyone know how to remove these panels in a safe, gentle manner so I don't break anything?

Thanks

I can pull the cig plug out without a problem. There is a tab under the felt bottom piece inside the compartment where the plug is, and the wires coming off it have about 10" of slack that I can work with. I need to get the side panel off so I can drill the hole through the console without making a hole in the panel itself, It is just a pretty covering, I think, so it seems doable. I'm just afraid of tugging too hard on it without knowing someone else has previously done something similar.

Post Cut.....

I'm not seeing the need to cut......

If you take one of the seats out, you will see a dozen good routes thru the back area. Just lift the seat base out, then two 14mm bolts hold the back.

I went in there for my XM - from the trunk to the lighter with a coathanger, then fished the wire thru, easy, no cutting.

I figured a way out without cutting or drilling. I didn't realize the whole console top could come up with the removal of 6 screws. Once I pulled them out, I was able to lift it enough to squeeze my hand through the channel and guide the cables through. It looks much cleaner this way. Thanks abbid for making me rethink it before doing something stupid .

How do i Get the cup holders and rear cubby out? I need to run a wire underneath them? Do I have to remove the silver trim pieces or what?

There are 2 more screws in the very back storage compartment, and 2 more underneath the trunk center pass through. Take those out as well and then the entire center console from cupholders back should pop right out. Pull straight up on it.

The rear silver bits come right up with it IIRC, but not the front silver bits. they separate at that seam at the cupholders.

PS: make sure to unplug and remove the 12v socket before attempting to remove the console.
