Defect - If you live in HOT Climate

Well, here's an interesting one. Not sure you will have experienced this unless you live in very hot climate. I am in the Phoenix, Arizona area. The sun visor (at least the one on the driver side) has been replaced three times now, under warranty, since I bought the car less than a year ago. My dealer says he's seen it many times. Apparently, the visor is poorly designed; glued to itself, wrapped around the metal fixture attached to the roof and it splits open fairly easily. The last time I had it replaced, it took about 1 week (maybe popped it up/down 3 times max) before ... SPLIT it happened again. The problem is that the visor has wiring through it (for the vanity mirror) and if you try to take the visor off after it has split (to get the hanging thing away from your line of sight), it breaks a circuit and your electronics go crazy.

Anyway, I haven't touched the visor once over the last 3 weeks since it was replaced last. I am waiting for the cooler weather to come. Hey, one thing I love about the 8 is the amazing attention to detail. I guess you can't expect every single detail to be perfect.

Dan

Mine broke on both driver's and passenger's side. Drove around without them for a month without any problems.

I'm waiting for the driver's side one to come off backorder. Mine broke a little over a month ago. I only ever used mine to hold in the sunshade when it was really hot and sunny out. I ended up making a mailing tape kind of a sling thing to hold it out of my line of site. Of course, it looks really tacky but it'll due until I can get a new one. I didn't want to mess with the wiring in it to pull if off, especially since it only seemed to have split partially.

Just FYI, they are not on backorder. Anthow, we keep several in stock for obvious reasons.

You must be one of the dealerships the parts guy mentioned that had numerous in stock. LOL I was told they were expected in on the 21st. If so, I am going to see if I can set up an appointment on Monday to get everything taken care of (recall, tire sensor check, et cetera) since I'm not doing anything that day.

You souldn't post until you can maintain a 10:1 search to post ratio.

Seems like the visors are poorly designed, but why aren't they ALL breaking?? I've had my car since February and haven't had a problem.

I haven't had any problems with mine in over 2 years. I rarely touch them though.

hmmmm

They could make these out of carbon fiber, of course paint them to match the interior.

That should be enough to strengthen them.

Mine did fine in Oregon. It was when I was in Washington that it died on me.
