sold the 8...

I'm already missing the car very much but it was the wrong car for me at this time of my life.

Now I've got to find myself a car. I'm looking for a sporty and reliable car that get's good gas mileage, AND has a manual transmission. My budget is under 17k and I'm hoping to get one for under 15k, so the car has to be used. Thinking of these cars:

Subaru Impreza WRX
Honda Prelude
Acura RSX
Nissan 240SX
Mazdaspeed Protege

Can you guys think of any others I should look into?

How about the luxo sport tourer deluxe, i.e. the Lexus IS350? I know deep down you really want one.

How about the basic 2006 Mazda 6i? After the $2500 rebate, you are looking @$15.8K...brand NEW

I like the 6, but I'm not to keen on the 4-cylinder version, except for the Mazdaspeed6 of course (way out of budget though)!

I added the Mazdaspeed Protege. There are a few of those in my area for sale but I'm not liking that huge spoiler on the the thing.

Yeah..was wondering if you would bite on the 4-cylinder..but the MS version is almost as much as the 8!! If you don't need a car right now, you can get the 6-cylinder version a couple month down the road..$19.5K with NO options..

Prelude looks like a good option for what you want.

240SX is a very good car. Not the fastest car on your list, but a joy to drive. And it's RWD.

If you don't need tons of space you could also consider a used Miata. Also wonderful to drive and you can also get a hardtop if you're not really into convertibles.

From the list I would go with the 240. There are a ton of mods available for it, it is a blast to drive.

If you are secure in your manhood how about Miata? Occasionaly I see an S2000 for around 17-18k for one of the earlier ones. (If you are capible of becoming a Honda guy.) If you spot one, jump fast. It won't last long.

I don't think a miata or a s2000 is reasonable for my needs right now.

I looked at some 240's on Autotrader in my area. The thing is is that they all have alot of mileage on them. I have a '99 Altima that I'm driving right which has 125k miles and its dreadfully slow. I think the engine is in its last throes. I'm afraid of the same thing from buying a 240 with alot of mileage on it.

There are a few pretty good preludes around, and there are a lot of RSXs but I kinda want the Type-S model only.

I sold my 8 for an audi TT. Over 30 mpg and can be tuned to a very powerful car for cheap. Looks a little better than a sentra too. Used ones can be had for as low as 13k.

Definately on the list I would go for the MS Protege. I have one and it's a great car. Keep the mods simple with a new midpipe and the car will be quick and handle better than most anything on the road. I think they go for about 13k now? I had a fully modified subaru and the MSP was almost as fast, all while being under warranty and getting MUCH better MPG... then again, MPG has never been a major concern.

Off the list, maybe a Scion TC? You can get a new one for 17k and since it's Toyota the resale should be good, also you get new car reliability.

I sold my 8 for an Acura RSX. This car is seriously understated. I am having so much fun. Last 6 years, I've had a WRX, RX8 and now RSX. This is as much fun as the the others full stop. For front wheel drive, it handles extremely well. Awesome on fuel, enough power, looks are personal taste but I love it, sounds brilliant. It's a hell of a lot of fun. You wont be disappointed. Also, shitload of mods if you want to go down that path.

There's nothing like cruising at less than 5800rpm if you want use minimal fuel. Push it beyond and hit the VTEC and hang on, its like a mini turbo! With cutout at 8,300 rpm, it's not only rotaries which rev high.

Now do you have the Type-S model? The Type-S is one I'm interested in since it has the 200hp engine.
