Think about it - you need/want a large SUV but aren't a fan of "real" SUVs, where do you look? Bam. Still a largeish SUV with fewer compromises that large SUVs often make, plus it looks a hell of a lot better than most of its competition. I know if I was looking into the segment, this would be at the top of my list.

 

really bluesky? you cared enough to make a crappy comment in my thread. fyi there have been many of us discussing this and the cx-7 as they were developing and i posted it for those people i knew were interested. and for those of us that have been looking at the development of the new FOrd 3.5l 6cyl engine.

 

Well, I care about it. A sedan, wagon or a car-based SUV is in my not-too-distant future, and I am VERY interested in any published specs on the new 3.5L engine.

Yes, thats exactly the point. I'm still unsure about which cars you are enthusiastic about.

 

I'd say most of the folks here are automotive enthusiasts. To me, the biggest part of what it is to be enthused by automobiles is to have a broad range of interests and to respect most every vehicle for what it's worth. If you tend to focus on one specific vehicle or type of vehicle, I'd say you're more of a "fanboy" rather than a true enthusiast.

BACK TO TOPIC, I'd be curious to sit in the third row and see exactly how much cubic space is still there as they advertise that most 7 seaters suffer in this area (which i can understand, even the expedition with the 3rd in seating position barely has enough to account for groceries.)

 

I hope I never get to the day where I need a SUV. I guess this would be a good choice. However, if I could afford it, I would want the Porsche Cayenne SUV.

The Mazda looks like a good affordable alternative. However, if Ford continues to crap all over everything it owns, I may not want one. Hopefully I will be able to stick to at the biggest, four door sport sedans or two door sport coupes.

 

SUVs aren't cars. I've been trying to tell Car and Driver the same thing.

 

And I'm sure they're wringing their hands that you don't agree with their editorial decisions.

Since SUV's are still the largest-selling segment of the consumer-grade vehicle universe, determining which SUV's are adequate replacements for automobiles is a valid concern. Since the CX-7/9 aren't true trucks but car-based SUV's, testing them is a reasonable thing for them to do... And for the rest of us to be concerned about. You may be a young fella who has nothing more to worry about than the RX-8, there are others on this board who care about finding the best-handling, best-performing most car-like SUV on the market.

But what do you care about any of this? You think that the Acura TL is "boring". Sweet Mary and Joseph.... Not to mention that you're deluded, most SUV's (small-to-mid-sized, at least) really ARE cars that are simply styled to LOOK like trucks. The Subaru Forester, for instance, is considered to be an SUV, but is nothing more than a tall Impreza that will whallop the RX-8 in a drag race.

Doesn't matter that they aren't cars. Automotive enthusiasts tend to be interested in all types of vehicles for what they're worth. We have lots of the kind around here, myself included. Doesn't mean I want a CX9, but I think it's an interesting concept and I'm looking forward to seeing and possibly driving one for myself.

 

Some people here have families. The CX-7 or the CX-9 would be perfect for such a situation. Plus, they are pretty cool "cross over" vehicles. No, they are not sports cars, but at least they are not the run of the mill soccer mom cars either. Your narrow mind is showing...

 

Yes, I see there's a difference between an automotive enthusiast and a car enthusiast. When my car and driver arrives in the mail, I read the entire thing cover to cover, skipping only everything on trucks and suvs. I guess you guys would read about all the vehicles with interest.

When my C&D, R&T, Automobile and AutoWeek arrive in the mail, I read them cover-to-cover.... Period.

 

I am an automotive enthuesist (sp) i follow all makes and models...just like i do with all sports. I look forward to all this new info. Most people are lieek this hence the all the auto shows, everyone at some point in their life will look at various size and makes of autos.

These crossovers are nice. I was narrow minded on my view towards automobiles, i would just care about sports cars more than anything else but that was when i was like 16. Though, i see where you are coming from Bluesky, sometimes you just have to give kudos for some nice vehicles that are coming out. I think the CX7 and 9 are nice crossovers and a good edition to the mazda line up. I have to admit, im really eye'ing the CX7. I was planning on getting a Protege 5 or MP3 but i surely wouldnt mind one of these crossovers.

 

I agree, the CX7 is definitely a step above your normal "SUV". I wouldn't mind it as a rental or vacation vehicle.
