Drifting is overrated IMO.... the way you win is based on how OTHER PEOPLE think you performed.. if you want other people to decided how well you did... go take up diving... i perfer to know how well i did on my own.... hence 1/4, twisties, and, or my athletic Sport the 100m/200m Dash..

agreed, drifting is deffinetly a talented art, but as far as racing goes, it's possibly the most inefficient form of auto racing out there.

Yet really fun to watch.

I have heard that a front heavy car is easier to drift. The backend follows it better like an arrow, it is harder to get the backend to come around full. More controlled.

Drifting is tons better than NASCRAP

Oh, I remember making a 1001-hp Escudo Pikes Peak in Gran Turismo 3. That thing was insane.

That is so cool. I am a Suzuki salesman. We don't have a Grand Vitara quite like that one in stock. If we did, I would be so fired.

The motor is behind the driver in the pikes peak racecar. I have a little info on the car. I will try to find it and post it. The car was designed to dominate Pikes Peak (which it did handily)

From this logic, I guess you think a lot of the sports in the Olympics are overrated, huh? Such as gymnastics, high diving, freestyle skiing, etc?

You're correct. Drifiting is the automotive equivalent of ice skating. Now, is comparing drifting to ice skating supposed to make it more legitimate?

I've never understood it either, but I'm perfectly willing to accept the fact that that probably means I'm getting old.

I agree with the analogy. And this site doesn't allow such logical thought, please post somewhere else.

Drifting looks kinda stupid on video untill you see it and try it. Then you'll understand.

That means there will be a developing market for drift arenas -
lot smaller chunk of land required than needed for a car race track- I can see some profit here
- sort of like waterparks and mini-golf courses -

and here's a new Olympic sport...

i support drifting even though i am constantly engaed in serious atuocrossing.
The reason is simple.
when you are sliding or the edge of sliding, you can get to know your car better. see how your car behaves at the limit and over the limit. moreover, CONTROL IT and brings it back to life.

Everyone car racers and people who want to do well in racing all must start with drifting.
Get to FEEL THE CAR AS YOU not just 4 wheels with one brake and one throttle.

drifting is not a sport, it is a technique, and to anyone who thinks it sucks or is a joke and that you can't use it to win races and blah blah blah I offer you one word:

Tsuchiya

people have been "drifting" since people started racing, (we're talking decades here) i't s nothing new, just now it has a name and a bunch of people are making a shitload of cash off of it by hyping it up and marketing it as a sport/lifestyle.

I don't think it sucks, and I don't think it is a joke. Those guys are fantastic drivers. But I do think it is overhyped.
