The Tube That Connects to Nothing???

I was checking my oil just as any good owner should and I happend to notice a tube that didn't connect to anything. It seems pretty obvious where it should connect, but I just got the car new 2 weeks ago and would the factory miss something like this??? It looks like it should be a breather hose of some sort since it connects to the intake tube. I guess there are 2 other tubes that connect to the same general area just before the throttle body. Looks like it would just be missing an elbow connector. Does anyone know where on the engine this connects to and if there would be anyy possible damage from running the car almost 1k miles without it connected???

My guess is that it should be connected to teh Internets as it is just a series of tubes. No wonder I couldn't download my pr0n last night -- your damn tube was disconnected screwing up the entire web!

It is the hose to the air jet port or the oil metering pump, I can't remember which exactly.
Both supply a "bleed" of air to the motor to atomize fuel or presurize the oil ports respectively.
It would be better that it got its air from the filter rather than the open engine bay as is it like that, but it wouldn't be likely to have caused any catastrphic damage in such a short period.

Why it is missing completely, I can't comment. Most of the time that I have seen damage to that hose, the "L" adapter is usually broken rather than absent since it gets brittle after long exposure to heat. Yours was simply deleted for some reason.

Damn Guys, thanks for the quick response!

I'll head to the dealer tomorrow and get an elbow connector tomorrow if I have time. I think I'll take some time this weekend to get under the car and see what other cost cutting measures were taken by Mazda on my car.

Sorry for messing up everyones pr0n connections.

Excellent Diagram! Now I can sleep tonight knowing it was just a crankcase breather hose. I'll see about getting that taken care of tomorrow. Thanks for staying up late to look into this for me

it's a huge vacuum leak after the MAF, lucky you haven't blown the engine ...

There is no vacuum before the TB.
It is possible to take in un-metered air, but not enough to blow anything.

correct, should have said suction leak because it will pull in air that is not only unmetered, but also unfiltered

meaning anything large enough to fit through the orifice could get digested by the engine ...

Correct me if I am wrong....

But that cant be a crank-case breather, right?

Since we dont have a crank and all?

There is, actually, an oil cavity breather for lack of a better word that serves a similar function.
However, that is not it.
