hey guys i just bought new rims and waitin for em to arrive. 18x8 front and 18x9.5 rear. what kind of tires and size would u guys recommend? any help is appreciated tanx.

 

seeing as you've been here for 7 months or so, one would think you knew how to search.

ANYWAY... i'd go 245/40 & 275/35.

 

i did search actually in the heels tires breaks and suspensions but couldnt get the info i need. all i see is the size of tires but doesnt say for wat size of the rims. tanx zaglo.

 

245/40 and 275/35 is what i got and i love them!

You shouldn't go cheap on tires. You spent the money for the wheels, it would be best to finish the job properly. As far as tire brands, why don't you tell us some of the ones you are considering...

 

+1 /\ Tires are the only thing that keeps the car under control and are the most important safety component on the car. What you plan on doing with your car and where you live is important in the selection process.

 

well i read a lot of people here with toyo proxes. i really dont know much about tires. i know brands but thats it. yokohama kuhmo falken

 

the stock rx8 rims of 18x8 has 225/45 tires. can u guys tell me why 245 would be better than 225

 

Now I'm even more confused. Why would you go with wider aftermarket wheels, and staggered at that, if you want to think about 225s?

Your car will be introduced to a tendency to understeer based on having 1.5" wider wheels in the rear. I assume you're only using this as a street car and it will not see time at the track (road courses, not drag strip)?

IMO, you should go with a 245 in the front because the tires should stay as balanced as you can keep them and I'm guessing you are going to use a 265 or 275 in the rear. There are other threads here that explain why the RX-8 came with symmetrical 225 front and rear for handling purposes.

 

More grip, plus they look better. Some people recommend Kumho SPT's as being a good bang for the buck. If you want more performance, look at Kumho MX, Toyo T1-R, and Azenis rt-615s. These can be had at reasonable prices and are comparable to much more expensive rubber (Michelin PS2s & Potenzas RE-01R)

I just had a set of Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3 245/40YR-18 tires installed on the stock 18" wheels. I shopped around at all the local shops, but could only get them down to ~ 300 per tire. I was ultimately able to get the best deal by ordering online from Tire Rack and having my neighborhood shop take care of the install (including Nitrogen fills). I saved several hundred dollars on the purchase/install total and could not be happier with the ease of this process. Feedback on the tire performance.....WOW !!!!! Absolutely a fantastic choice... my thanks to those who previously gave recommendations for the F1's. I now also recommend the Goodyear Eagle F1 for anyone looking to replace the stock tires and add a new level of driving performance to the already great RX8.

 

245 Azenis are what you seek. Dirt cheap, fantastic performance. Don't try to drive them in winter of course. They can get a little noisy when they wear down, however.

 

i run 245/40 toyo t1r's on stock wheels for the RX8 & just ordered kumho ecsta mx's for my m3.

got the tires but havent installed them. i got a question about TPMS. does it mean tire pressure monitoring system? i looked at the TPMS thread but couldnt get the answer i want. wat will happen if my new rims wont take the TPMS? do the shop just leave it or wat? help please.

 

Take it to the dealership, that's what I did. They only charged me 40 bucks to swap everything over. And if the TPMS won't fit ohwell, just ignore the light on the dash or put a piece of electrical tape over it...not that big a deal. Oh and you have the TPMS definition correct.
