My so called "CarPC" (kind of)

Today I installed DIY laptop mount for my Tablet PC Fujitsu P1510D. This little 8.9" tablet has a passive touchscreen, which makes it a good CarPC option. And you can use it outside of the car too. Thats why I decided not to go with a dedicated CarPC this time.
I used a Xenarc monitor mount left from my previous car CarPC setup and a custom made plexiglas car mount for the tablet. No drilling or whatever, everything is reversible back to stock.
Now have to run the power, audio and GPS wires.

And some pics:

Which one?
The Xenarc mount is from my previous carputer setup, like 2 years ago. Comes with every Xenarc in-car monitor.
The plexiglas one is from a guy from Sweden. He makes them. $35 shipped to the US and 2 weeks to get it.
See HERE for details.

Aaah, I know about that.
But it eats batteries. That's what I don't like about them. And the price also.
It can be custom powered from the car though.
Having no wires is a big +.

Yes, it is convertible. You can use it as a laptop and tablet PC.
Got it for $1300 from Newegg seven months ago.
I was looking for small laptop that I can use as a carputer.
I had 2 options-this one and the Toshiba Libretto U105.
Fujitsu having a passive touchscreen made my decision easy. Most of the tablets have digitizers and you cannot use them with your fingertip.

Might do that when it gets scratched.
Or paint only the back?!?!
The clear front looks better IMO.

Its all photoshop. It is not going to work. Don't even try it.

BTW Newegg has the best price. Even better than Ebay. And you know their service .
The only drawback is the RAM-only 256MB. But aftermarket 1GB chips just started to show up for like $250 and they'll get very chip very soon. Fujitsu 1GB upgrade is(was) like $900 .
I upgraded mine to 512MB as soon as I got it.

As another TabletPC owner I'll tell you that you really want a minimum of 1 GB of RAM, and ideally 1.5 GB if you can.

XP Tablet Edition has a fair amount more overhead than standard XP. Base RAM usage is usually 400+ MB.

Too bad, XPTE has a lot of extra goodies. Well worth the extra overhead, IMO.

I'm dual-booting Vista Beta on my HP TC1100 right now and even with the TPC extras it's only running 340 MB RAM. I'm not running the Aero glass UI (couldn't even if I wanted to ) I like it... just hope I can afford it!

Hey Does the mount fold up or store anywhere if you don't have the tablet in the car? I'm thinking of going with your idea and rocking that. Let me know.

You can store the mount away.(4th pic). The 3th pic is what you have "permanently" in the car - a small bracket.
