Exclamation Hesitation - Too much oil?

I recently got an oil change at the dealership, and since then I noticed a little hesitation in acceleration (paticularly in 3rd gear) once the tach reaches between 7k and 8k rpm.

When I checked the oil level with the dipstick, I noticed that the dealership filled her up just some over the FULL line.

I read a similar forum of hesitation during acceleration but they were referencing a possible problem with the plugs....

Could the oil level be a contributor to this problem??

Also, I was going to drive and eventually the oil level will burn off to the FULL line....

Any suggestions???

from what ive read, as long as the level doesnt reach the round part of the dipstick, its probably fine.

My dealer always overfills mine and I never had a problem. Of course, maybe thats why I get 2000 miles out of it before adding a quart...

Yes... But I'm worried... the manual stated that serious engine damage may be cause by overfilling....Maybe I'm just paranoid....

I don't understand why those idiots at Mazda can't figure out how much oil to put in an RX8.

Maybe they're thinking that most 8 owners don't know enough about their car, i.e, what's a rotary engine? You need to add oil every 2000 miles, and I doubt everyone does that. So maybe they overfill a little bit so that the engines don't run out before the next oil change

probably overfilling is better then underfilling. I get lazy about adding oil, it's a pain to get that dipstick when the engine is warm.

If you have a stock air box, check to see if oil has seeped into it. I read here that the older RX-8's had an issue of over filled oil backing into the air box. The '06 models have had this issue resolved at the factory.

This seems to be pretty much a common occurrence. The first (and only) time it happened to me the Service Writer told me they do it to prevent the customer from having to add oil between oil changes. Since then, I just remind them NOT to overfill my oil as I DO check it as required. Makes you kind of wonder if this will have any long term affects on vehicles that don't get checked and are continously overfilled for the life of the car. I do believe one time will not hurt, especially with the new flash metering out more oil but be sure in the future to tell them not to do it.

Interesting take on it. I just assumed it was b/c they thought the 8 takes about as much as any other engine.
