Garmin Nuvi 350 Personal Gps Travel Assistant

My 04 RX8 had NAV... My 06 Shinka doesn't so I've been shopping for a handheld
unit and found the GARMIN NUVI 350.

Can anyone give me any feedback on this unit?
They can be had for under $700 and have a lot of features... MP3 player...

I'm interested in this little unit, myself. I've also checked out the Tom Tom units, but the Garmin Nuvi's look more compact and sleek.

Anyone have experience with this device?

I have the TomTom GO300 and its pretty nice, I have it mounted with velcro on top of my dash where the factory nav would be--works for what I need. I need to upgrade the maps with all the damn road construction projects going on here in Houston.

i'm waiting for the Nuvi 360 version as it will have bluetooth capability to make hands free calls through your cell phone and actually access your cell phones phonebook for easy dialing.

do these things also work if you want to go say hiking or boating with it?

ie will it display your position while not on a highway or just crash trying to locate you on a road??

I notice some gps devices advertise a pedestrian mode for those types of circumstances. I don't see a feature like that listed for the Nuvi...

They should work while you're on foot.
I don't think the 350 has a pedestrian mode.
To my understanding, most new GPS units should work if you're moving 100 MPH or standing still...
Probably depends on which maps are loaded on the machine.
Correct me if I'm wrong...

for about the same price you could get the TomTom 910 which has all the stuff the Nuvi has plus bluetooth capabilities. mp3's, good maps, portable. but the Nuvi is still much smaller.

I wouldn't recommend the Nuvi for hiking, that is what the etrex legend or explorist is for. As for boating, i know the Garmin Street Pilot 2720 works with it, but i have no clue about the Nuvi.

The 350 allows you to change the vehicle type. Some of the modes are car/motorcycle, pedestrian, bicycle, taxi and emergency vehicle.
There is about 750mb free on the unit for mp3's or audio books with an sd card slot if you need to add more storage.
I also purchased the GM-10 traffic receiver. This unit plugs is installed between the antenna and the radio and works on a special FM channel. This allows the nuvi to route you around traffic sitiations.
The battery life is very good. It will last about 5 hours with the GPS active.
