White RX-8 - factory bodykit - colour mismatch??

Hi guys,

I have a question. When I got my white RX-8, i optioned it with the front, side and rear skirts on it. The colour on the skirts though seems to be a noticeably 'whiter' white than the body, even though you can still see the pearl in there. Been trying to sort out with the dealer if this was their error, or if it's just due to 'different materials' being painted, because they are claiming they just order it by the paint code and it should of matched. Although upon inspection a few of the employees agreed that the skirts were 'whiter'.

Looking at a few of the photos in the White thread, it seems that I might be seeing the same colour variation on a lot of the white cars in some of the photos (or is it just my imagination??).

For all you white owners, do u notice any difference in the colour between the body and the front/side/rear skirts? Or should I be giving my dealer an earful for mismatching the paint?

Looking forward to your replies.

Thanks!

my rear bumper is a different color from the car. ITs darker. I checked the rest of the whites on the lot before buying and they all had the same problem. I was told it was the primer they use?...

The bumpers on my Whitewater are a slightly different shade than the rest of the car. At first I thought something was up, but it comes down to a difference in paint over metal versus plastic. I only notice it in certain lighting conditions, so it's no big deal.

Hi guys.

Thanks for the comment about the bumpers.
Would I be correct though in assuming that bumpers and skirts are made of the same plastic material? So theoretically, bumpers and skirts should turn out the same colour? because that's where my problem lies...

There are bound to be small differences in color...different materials, different paint lots, and with metallic paints different painting conditions will make the paint look different.

The SS splash guards that I put on were different at first...but they have weathered to a much closer match than when I first put them on

White is really really difficult to match, sounds silly but it's very true. My father has a thing for white cars and has been adding kits to them since the 80s, I recall him having to paint them several times to get it right. The only white car I've owned, my WRX, had a body kit and I had to have them redo it, simply using the same paint code doesn't seem to work. This was later proven when I had a scrape painted, and also proven by the fact that the stock panels didn't ecactly match. Since I've owned that car I've paid attention to other white cars and it's VERY common, most often a metal panel not matching a stock panel made out of another material.

This pic is from before it was repainted and I think you can even tell in a low quality photo.
