Air pump functions w/ respect to MM & MadDog's Definitive Fixes

I was one of the first people in line to receive the supposed GReddy airpump fixes that included a portion of the wiring harness. I didn't get to use the diode from Radio Shack...

1) On morning start-ups is the air-pump supopsed to start up with the car and cut-off after a few minutes (during warm-up)?

2) Is the air-pump supposed to stay on for a less than a minute after a long drive?

I am having a lot of trouble understanding your post... You actually DO have the smog pump dongle from GReddy?

The smog pump comes on for 30 seconds or so on cold starts.
The smog pump should not be on after you shut off the car - regardless of the duration of your last trip. Are you confusing it with the radiator fans?

Hey MadDog!

Thanks for responding. I don't know the technical term for the pump. However, the described "pump" is motorized and dumps smog to the GReddy manifold via supplied supplied stainless steel line. I am positive it's not the electrical radiator fans because the smog pump is active when I shut off engine.

I believe the dongle that MM was talking about has Japanese characters and has "O2" written in the description line. Benny sent me a re-wiring kit that has a diode surrounded by shrink tubing.

I was wondering if anyone installed the GReddy fix (harness segment with a diode surrounded in shrink tubing) and still has the smog pump running after the car is shut off.

MadDog, do you think I should resolder with my own diode 1N0047 because the smog pump still runs when car is shut off?

How long does it run?

I wish Jeff would chime in here. That particular fix was his design. I wouldn't hesitate to rewire yours according to Jeff's instructions, though.

O2 'Dongle'

I did MM modification(I can't even get Greddy people to even acknowledge my e-mails).The dongle in my harness has 5 wires.I installed the diode on the black wire where it connects to a green wire in the harness connectors.I did no soldering on the harness,I merely put connectors on the diode so I can install or remove/replace.Before I put the diode in the air pump ran for about 15 seconds,now it does not run when I turn off the ignition.

two rotors;

I have the same 5-wire setup as yours. However, when I received the GReddy "fix" there was instruction to unplug the white wire from the dongle and use electrical tap on it.

If you want to do the experiment,you can disconnect the black wire from the green wire at the harness connectors---you should find that the air pump does not run at all,then if you do a temporary install of the diode with the band to the green wire you should find that the air pump runs when you start the car cold and shuts off immediately with the engine.That's what mine does.

Dang'git... my harness is retarded. I disconnected the green from black connector from O2 dongle to wiring harness and fan still turns on. This is including a battery reset.

I'm going to get an audience w/ Benny...
