Here's a few pictures I took at night using only the light from the moon to light the car. My wife calls our white RX8 Moonshine (we used to have a yellow 6 that she named sunshine).

Most of these pictures were taken for 1 minute exposures and the one interior shot that lights up red is the light from our footwell LED's.

The red lights are from the Mazda footwell light kit that has 2 red LED's. Over a minute they emit enough light to fill the cabin with a red glow and give quite a look

Here's another 'red' interior shot with a little different angle and only about a 45 second exposure. This white color really looks cool under the light of the moon.

 

If those are just footwell lights, their damn bright!

 

It's pitch black out tonight, but you can see how the long exposure makes the sky even light up. These digital cameras are really sensitive to the red spectrum, so very little light over a long exposure shows up bright.

It looked much dimmer to your eyes while standing there looking at the car.

 

I really like that red lighting. Do they come in blue???

Are they always on? Because I would only want them when I have the dash turned to the all red when I have my lights on at night. That would be annoying and a waste if they were on 24/7.

 

I'm pretty sure they're not always on. That would be stupid and illegal.

The lights are only on when the lights on the corner of the doors are on. There is a timer that comes with the kit that keeps them on for 10 seconds after the door lights go off. For the picture I had the drivers door cracked so they stayed on for the whole time the picture was being taken.

Camera: Nikon D70 and a 18mm wide angle lens

 

Come only in red, but you can buy a LED kit off of ebay and install any color you want. Bonus will be, that you can hook them up to a toggle switch and turn them on when you want. The Mazda lights have a delay and go off after about 10 seconds.

 

Ohhh, so they aren't on all the time. That's a lot of money only for about 10 seconds of lighting, but it sure does look cool!

 

Also, do they come on when you hit the keyless entry? That would be awesome. At night, you hit it to unlock the car and your car glows red from the inside out.

I'm just here supporting that the first pic is hot. Personally I have a vendetta against white because it is the destroyer of yellow, but that picture is awesome. The first white 8 picture I've saved to my computer.

 

It's always amazing how much light a digital camera can suck in during a long exposure. Really nice shots, love the glowing red.
