Rx8 Stock vs Rx8 Greddy - Video Comparo

This was a comparo of a Rx8 100% and a Rx8 Turbo by Greddy w/ unichip managing fuel.

Rolling Start on 2nd we pulled 3rd and 4th gear (just a little)
Video Here

On the video, the turbo was recently installed, piggy fat and was running @ 5psi. The car was with 245WHP, 290bhp on the crank.

Now the car has catless midpipe and is running @9psi droping to 7psi. Better tunned is doing 357bhp on the crank, +/- 320whp @ 8000RPM with 337Nm @ 7000RPM.

I have posted an video of the car on track, catless and with no catback, 330whp. on this thread

(who was driving was a friend, first time he drove the car so he is having trouble with it, DSC off, he has a WRX. other problem is that the car has stock tires... arent handling the extra power. but it have RB springs, swaybars and some camber job)

hope you enjoy it

Pulls away effortlessly. I've never been in a turbo RX-8, but as everyone always indicates it must be night and day.

Thanks for the vid.

How did you tune to 357hp at the crank?

Yeah, I'm afraid about pulling the trigger on FI too soon. A comparo video like that makes it very tempting. But I'd also like to see all these other options come to fruition before making a choice. I'd also to have the car prepped to handle the power - suspension - wheels - brakes - etc...

Awesome. Thanks for the post! It's always good to see the performance gains "first-hand" like that.

With Dastek's Unichip. A piggy-back computer thats manage fuel and timming.

Boost it up to 9psi. The car has cat-less 2 1/2 inch midpipe. I use 96 oktane gasoline and Brazilian gasoline has 25% of alchool on it (this helps A LOT).

I can't explain why but the car is doing better mpg. here in brazil we use kms per Litre, (km/l) stock the car was doing 5~6km/L in the city and now it's 7km/L. I think it's because in daily driving i use less the gas pedal due the HUGE gain of torque. Now i can drive in ~3000RPM and pull away from other cars without gearing it down and reving it up.

I didnt compare the mpg on race track, but i think there would be no doubt the Turbo would lose BADLY. eheheh but who cars?

has anyone succesfully had Mazda install a Turbo under warranty? My girlfriends father has an NSX which he had supercharged through Acura and it didn't void the warranty.

Anyone think Mazda would do this?

Comptech S/C does not void warranty. Show up to a Mazda dealership asking them to honor you waranty, or better yet install it, they'll look at you like you lost your mind.

I was actually suprised the car didn't pull even harder, but then I read the car was running rich and was at stock boost. I'd like to see another comparison done now that it is tuned.

My point is, unless you pulled the motor, then dyno'd, the engine's crank HP is unknown.

IF the rx8 really makes 238hp, and dynos at 185, that's a 23% loss. If you showed 245whp on the dyno, that could be 301HP at the crank. then again...nobody really knows the drivetrain loss this car suffers.

"The worst scenario case for a rear drive setup is on the order of 12.5% in 4th gear, not the 20 -25% often published. If 25% was being lost in the drivetrain, the oil would boil in the differential housing in short order and aluminum transmission cases would fatigue and break from the temperatures generated. On a 200 hp engine, something on the order of 37,000 watts would have to be dissipated out of the transmission and differential housings."
