1989 Rx-7

I have a quick question for all you rotorheads out there. I have come across a white 1989 RX-7. The guy told me to make him an offer. I have not seen this car yet, and all I know about it is that it's white and when he parked it about 4 months ago, it ran fine other than it was running hot, and he said the car was in fairly good condition. I know this is probably a question for the RX-7 Club, but I am registered on this site and I figured I would ask you guys what yall thought. Yall seem to know a lot more about rotaries than I do. Is this car a pretty rare find or should I not even bother?

Thanks for any replies,

i dont know the particulars of the car. the guy isnt even advertising he's selling it. it was barely spared by hurricane rita. they basically want someone to take it off of their hands and get it out of their way.

well, if you haven't seen the car yet, how would you know how much to offer for it based on its condition

and 1989 isn't a 'special' year like 1988, when they made the 10AE TII, so really you should be trying to find out about the condition of the car

though i do need to mention that 1989 is the first year of the S5 FC, aka 'Kouki', with the 160hp NA engine and the 200hp turbo engine. Personally I prefer the S5's over the earlier S4's (1986-1988) in that they made noticeable improvements in terms of designing for better reliability.

Thanks for any replies,
Hot is very bad in a RX anything. If he is judging hot by the factory gauge, Id be even more concerned that something is wrong. Just go take a look at it in person. If its in good shape and you can pick it up for a grand or so, I would think you could part it out and make some cash. I dont think its rare, but find out the model.

I had an 87 that overheated one time. It will quickly crack the housing and you'll end up paying more for a repair than the car is worth. However, if you can get it for a steal, and it only has a problem with heat and hasn't actually overheated or caused damage, I say go for it. The RX-7 was one of my favorite cheap sports cars to drive.
