Why dost thou mock me?

So about two weeks ago my RX 8 gets backed into by a truck while parked right outside of my house. It pushes the left rear fender in about four inches and renders the car undrivable.

I watched the driver do this. I walk outside, and he swears up and down that it wasn't him. (I'm never quite sure how people think that a flat denial is an argument, but there ya' go) Through some effort on my part I now have a cheque for the full amount from the insurance company to repair it, but due to a general back log, my body guy can't fix it for another two weeks or so.

Therefore, I am now driving a rental, a very nice rental. Enterprise delivered up a brand spanking new Nissan Murano (114 miles on it), which is quite comfortable and drives fine . . . BUT IT ISN'T MY 8!

Now in the general scheme of driving, I see about one 8 a week on the roads. Since I got the Murano, I am seeing three a DAY, and each and every one of them reminds me of how miserable it is to not be driving my 8. It's driving me NUTS! I want my car back. I don't care if the Murano has AWD, great heat, comfortable interior. I want something with some snap to the acceleration, whir of rotors, and steering that can't be beat. Every time the Murano nose dives while stopping, I frown. I am jonesing for my car. BLAAAAAAAH.

Thing is that I can't tell anybody else about this. No one I know understands why I wouldn't like the brand new Murano. They don't drive the ultimate sports machine . . . poor sad freakazoids. Thanks for letting me vent. Enjoy those RX 8s because life without them isn't that much fun.

Gosh, that sucks...sorry to hear that but at least the damage was not really bad. There have been members here to really mess up their 8's, some even losing it. So...while your pain is understandable, remember things can always get worse.

Maybe you should take a vaction from the 8 club, as to not be reminded of your beloved.

One or two days without the 8 and I'm twitching. I'm a fiend.

Lol, isn't it odd how that works out? You always see a ton of a particular car either just after you buy it, or when you don't have it.

Can't rally say I feel too sorry for you being in the Murano, though. That's one SUV (alongside the FX45) that I actually wouldn't mind cruising around in.

^me too. I had two CELs and an airbag light, had either a Mazda 3 or Chevy Malibu under warranty for rental. Perfect recipe for insanity.

I know exactly what you mean, in two ways.

When I wrecked, I drove a new Ford Explorer. It was really nice, but it wasn't my 8.

When I took my 8 in for the recall work, I was given a Buick Century. Given my size, it was like driving a tank. I vent to my roommate about it and how I miss my car and she says, "Tiff, there are people out there who would be grateful to have a car like that. There are people who CHOSE to buy that car. You're spoiled." Why yes, yes I am. And I want my car back!!! :

Hang in there, she'll be back soon and she'll be all fixed up!

I know, I know. I feel like a brat complaining about the Murano because it is a really nice SUV, but that's the point. I'm just not satisfied. I miss my 8, and then there are all these 8's running down the road looking good, driving great and they mock me. I feel like I'm going Son of Sam obsessing over the damn thing, and I have TWO MORE WEEKS TO GO! Blah. Stupid truck.

As for the insurance, my insurance has given me a cheque including my deductible, but they have not yet received payment so that could potentially go back, although when they give the whole thing, it's pretty unlikely that the other side won't cover it. The facts are pretty strongly on my side.

Anyway, thanks for the support! At least someone understands my Jones.

Hey it's an addiction and your having withdrawels. I know it must not be easy, but I truly think you will be ok.

Lot's of rest and take it easy for a couple days, then slowly ease back into your routine.

Mine has been garaged for the winter for about 2 weeks now. It will probably stay there until March. Talk about being bummed. At least I don't have to see others on the road. Mine is the only one around here.

I can't afford them right now and I have another vehicle that is much more capable in the snow. Especially when it comes a foot at a time.

Well, Cool Blue, you know the boat I'm in. It is merely fate mocking me and you. This is the second time that my car has been struck. The first time the RX 8 was all of three weeks old, and I was rear ended by a drunk college kid on the highway. The difference is that it was earlier in the year, and the car wasn't rendered undrivable so I just drove it until it had to go to the shop then drove an old mercedes that I keep around for kicks the two days that it took to fix, so I felt none of this karmic bitch slap of the rental car. I can't drive the Mercedes this time of the year due to the snow (older Mercedeses are very prone to rust and there is snow and salt all over the place here at the moment.) I think that the mockery of other 8's is merely fate's way of reminding us what we are without and pressuring me to protect my 8 better. Obviously, I should rent it its own garage (not going to happen but). God must be on the 8's side.

My commiserations to you on your troubles. She'll be good as new soon I'm sure, and whoever is fool enough to believe that a Celica is a cool car (much less half the car the 8 is) knows nothing of driving. Sad, sad, sad.
