I just bought my RX-8 on Wednesday. It was a demo vehicle. Just wondering what the standard life of the tyres are for the car. It's currently fitted with the standard factory tyres.

they seem to go around 24K i believe for normal driving, I just replaced mine at 19K but I know people that have needed new ones as early as 14K

 

I have nearly 35,000 miles on my stock tires. Still a decent amount of tread left too. The life of a tire is very dependent upon driving style.

 

Exceedingly dependent on driving style and care of the tire. Low or high pressures can cause excessive wear. Most of the US and UK magazines with RX-8s in their long-term test fleets seem to be getting around 18-24K miles on them.

 

Just got over 30,000 miles on the factory Dunlops. Rotated every 5,000 miles and pressure checked regularly @ 32 psi. Had picked up a pretty big nail so I went ahead and replaced them. Probably could have gotten another 2,000 out of them.

 

I got 16,000 out of my first set

 

With the OEM Bridgestones, I can very happily say that after 17K miles and four track days, I was able to take them off today by putting on my winter tires and wheels. Oh happy day, the car actually is so much quieter and so much easier to drive (it doesn't track any crack in the road) that I am actually happy for the winter. (what the heck did I just write??)

Anyway, after about 17K on them they look like they have 4 to 6 K left on them before the wear bars are even...remember that this includes 4 track days.

Sounds like people are getting 18 to 26K on the OEM bridgestones.

 

I was also wondering what kind of mileage people were getting out of the stock tires. Everyone else seems to have much higher numbers than me. I've had my car for one year and only have 7500 miles on it. My stock Bridgestone rears are just about at the wear indicators, and the fronts aren't too far off. I probably do have about 3000 miles worth of mountain runs on the tires, though.

 

21k and my back ones need to be replace.

 

~29k kms and looks like my OEM Potenza's about had it. Rotated every 10k kms, pressure checked regularly.

 

Didn't you find 32 psi just a bit too bouncy with the Dunlops? I think 32 actually is overinflated, the Dunlop's sweet spot seems to be 30-31, it makes a huge difference in how the car feels during corning. Much more planted, and when running at high speeds in a straight line the car seems to squirm much less.

 

i got just shy of 21k on the stock Dunlops. That was no track days, no autocross, no mountain runs. Just the daily grind. I didn't even try to spin them until they were a day from being replaced.

My KDW 2's, have about 16k on them, and they are toast. Add a bunch of track time, and autocross, and the life expectancy gets cut dramatically. So it is all how you treat them.

 

At about 10K mi., I spun the car. Due to warnout tires and hydroplaning on the expressway. It was in gentle corner. Not on the ramp. They weren't down to the wear bars yet, but they were soon replaced anyway. The OEM tires were the Bridgestones.
