Car kit installation??

Car kit installation??

I just had a car kit installed in my rx 8! apparently you cant radio mute it? does anyone here have a kit and are running it through their stereo

Sort of tangential, but...

I have installed relay boxes, that literally disconnect the speakers when you apply the muting signal from a car kit. Not really elegant, especially on a car with more than four speakers, but it does work...

I had mine done in "the early days" and while people said you could connect and mute the radio, my installer -- who's a pretty experienced professional -- couldn't

Nope can't be done. I have looked at all sorts of kits and there is not one currently that can. I was told it had something to do with the stereo input controls, or lack there of.

Interesting! Which kit and who fitted it?...'cos it's the same principle. My installer reckoned it was easily possible because of the mute button on the steering wheel, but then he couldn't find how to tap into it

i have been told that there is an adapter that you can use as a stereo input!! i just find taht the background noise of my rotary makes it very difficult to listen to my car kit speaker!!
