NOV 13th AUTOCROSS in Tampa

Sorry this is so late in being posted. The autocross event is in the St. Pete area and if you are running, you will need to arrive early to walk the course. Here is the site for pre-registration:

http://www.myautoevents.com/pls/mae/...sevent_id=4379

They will only take 60 people, so if you would like to try your hand at autocross, pre-register. I am registered in the Novice class since it will be my first run. If you want to watch, you can show up at any time. Food is provided for the paying applicant s($30). Helmets are provided and required.

A novice like me? but still want to try anyway? Here are a few links that were passed on to me for tips:

Professional nothing. Coming from an SM2 Miata, I was slinging the bone-stock 626 around the track with one hand out the window and wishing I had a non-dairy mochacino in the other. I was pretty damn good since the cones were coming at me so sloooooow. But now its been two years since I drove a sporty RWD car!!! Will I turn off the TC? I haven't even driven without the DSC yet. Who knows what will happen!

I'm going to leave min DSC on for the first runs. I haven't driven without it, so I expect it will be hard for me to try it all of a sudden. We have tested it a few times and you are really driving free.

Try it off today and see how it feels. I notice a major difference and have been sadly dependent. If you push the button and you see the DSC light on the dash and it says DSC off. You will be able to turn it on and off with a touch of the button. It really isn't off and will kick on in a slide to save you. You will need to hold the button down for over 6secs to really turn it off. You are telling the computer it is broken I think (read manual). You can not turn the DSC back on without restarting your car which will reset it.

Do you want to meet in the morning and drive together? We went skyway last time and I think it is about the same distance. I think we need to be there early to walk the track. Check the ESMTB site for details. Sounds like Tim is Co-chairing the event and designing the layout. And I think Dan Rasp is involved with this one also. I can get some KKremes on my way for BFast. I think we need to be there at 7am or something nuts like that.

Last time James and I showed at noon and just watched. I think there are so many heats, it can go all day. You would know better than me.

You are one exit past us on 75? PM me directions and a meeting spot, and then we can drive a bit fast on the way and see if we can get that oil light to come on (high RPMS, ha ha). BTW, James's Miata is getting faster than my 8. That new blowoff valve really has changed his umph...my sad little extra 4hp doesnt even matter

Well for those of you who have not autocrossed before, let me just say, "Holy Sht that was fun!"

We had a great time and there were 60 cars running all day. Evil Miata has pics that I am sure he will add to the link...

There were 4 RX-8s present and the event was very organized. I ran in the Novice class, and so did Evil Miata. He had the fastest time for the 8s and has only had that car of his for a week! Put me to shame.
