Is it worth for buying a RX8 ??

Hi Guys, Im the new member here and I'm 22 years old.

Anyway, I might get a RX8 and I went to quote the price for only $65000 + Leather Pack + Sun Roof..

Is it really worth of buying this RX8(Leather Pack + Sun Roof) for the price of $65000??

Are there any disadvantage of this model ??

Thanks

Kenny, welcome to the forum.

As most of us are owners here, and enthusiasts to boot, I suspect this is the wrong place if you are seeking reasons NOT to buy the 8. IMO, it is a fantastic car, one of the most fun drives I have ever had, great performance but comfortable and easy to live with. It is not perfect -- I doubt any car is -- but it seems to do most things a lot better than other cars in its class.

The leather pack includes a number of features over and above the cloth pack, which I have. As well as upholstery and elecric driver's seat, it has a Bose stereo and Xenon lights, as well as fog lights. Mechanically it is no different. As I do a lot of distance driving, I prefer the cloth seats. Also, the sun roof can reduce head room, which is only a factor if you're a tall fella.

As to price...sounds close to list price to me. What state/city are you located in? There's been a number of threads in this section detailing the deals people have achieved, so have a bit of a search. I seem to recall some people getting deals around $62k but can't remember if that included a sunroof.

Don't forget it is November and your car, if you get it now, will be a 2005 build (assuming we're talking about a car in stock). On 1 January, in the fickle eyes of the motor industry it will be "a year old" or "last year's model" in terms of depreciation and trade-in values. So dealers should be starting to offer some reasonable discounts.

Do some research, don't be pushed and you'll get a good deal

That's a US price. It was 33k, but after the sales guy added the window etching and the dealer prep, and the special paint protection and the anti fog treatment on the glass, it's not 65k. And the under coating, and the rust inhibitor and the carpet protector. oh yeah, i forgot, dealer keeps all incentives too.

blue flash and gonnahanvan8, it's always worthwhile checking which part of the forum a new post is located. This is the Australian forum, hence the pricing

Talking

From my recent discussions with a Mazda dealer is you want an 05 model off the floor you should get one for about 57K without sunroof. I don't know how much extra a sunroof is as I just don't fit.

For some strange reason I wanted an 06 model and ended up paying 60K for it.

Blue Flash, gonnahanvan8 thats what good cars cost when you live this far away (our leather pack is the same as your sport touring pack). Lucky for us beer and barbeques are really cheap and fresh kangaroo is never far away!!

And you'll have a Porsche eating ,HSV thrashing weapon

I have to laugh when a HSV pulls up next to me and revs the crap out of it wanting a drag... Little do they know what lies beneath

Sorry for the Shameless plug

Oh and youll have some money left over too .....for a holiday

Kenny, cannot advised you anymore but getting a new car. Unless it is a second hand car with full service history...

I can tell you what to look for in the 2nd hand car

But for first hand - you should pick one up much under that price with leather and sunroof - even for the shinka (limited - cream leather) model.

Go zoom zoom Kenny...

Nothing wrong with buying 05 as long as you get it for the right price. $57k (ex sunroof) would be a good deal, I reckon.

But if you tell us where you are (ie, State/city) we can give you some pointers

Kenny you do realise that the Automatic model does not have the same performance as the manual?

Due to the limitations of the current 4 speed automatic it gets 14kW @ 7000rpm versus 171kW @ 8200 rpm for the manual. It also loses almost 2000 rpm. On the upside fuel economy (which realistically is about as good as a small panzer especially in urban mode) is supposed to be better.

If you do "need" to get an automatic I suggest you consider waiting until the "rumoured" upgrade to a 5 or 6 speed auto (something similar to the 6 speed in the new MX-5). Of course that could take a while as it's quite a mythical beast!

For the record, I've had my RX-8 for 362 days and the final invoice price was $62K on-the-road for a Manual Luxury Pack with Wing (fitted & painted), Strakes, Front & Rear Motiffs, Mats, Paint Protection, Tinting and extended warranty (total 6 years) & Hymee Grill fitted.
Bearing in mind that this is almost a year ago I would expect you to get something similar for well south of $60K drive away.

Anyway happy shopping.
