Ok, so I am planning on droppin my 8 pretty soon and from what I have read on the boards, I have decided to go with the tein S-tech springs. Every post I have read has had a different situation than mine so I'm askin for advice here . Oh and for right now this is just for looks not performance.

My car currently has 16.5k miles on it. I'm planning on just using the springs for the looks right now. How much longer do you think the stock shocks will last?

Also, the only shocks that seem to be out there (this is from light web surfing) are the Koni's. Are there other shocks that might be a little more cost effective when my stock shocks go out?

Lastly, from what I have seen I'm also thinking of going with a full coilover setup as soon as the money becomes available. So would it be a good idea to do this to my car now just the springs, wait for the shocks to go out then upgrade the shocks/go to the coilover system?

Go with the Tein S tech's, you wont be disappointed.

Using the springs until my shocks begin to go out is what I plan to do, and when they wear out I will most likely go for a good set of coilovers.

 

Springs for now are ok, but your car will start bouncing a little by the time it reaches 20,000mi. I'm really fussy and only got 1 summer out of springs on the stock shocks. After 1 summer, the car doesn't bouce badly, but the handling is not what I paid $30,000 for.

In my oppinion you need to:
a) get coilovers right away, or
b) put on the springs, and plan to put shocks on within 1 year.

Can't speak for Koni's on the RX-8, but their adjustable shocks are usually awesome and comparable or better than Mazdaspeed. Personally I bought Tokico D-spec adjustables that I will mount in the spring.

I'd recommend the Tein Basics. They will cost a little bit more than the S tech / koni combination, but you will have the adjustability, and know that the springs are perfectly matched to the shocks.
