I've been waiting for what seems like forever to save up enough money to get a nitrous system installed for my RX8. Now that I have the cash, I am having second thoughts...mainly because I don't know too much about it and also the negative effects it might have.

I don't plan on running my car juiced up all the time, just every so often on a track or something. But I also don't plan on modifying my engine like crazy. Does anyone here run nitrous on a stock engine? How does it run? Any drawbacks?

I read somewhere on this forum that some people run a 50 shot with no problems but once you hit something like a 70 shot system, then things like detonation occurs.

I'd like to get some insight from you guys and gals. Thanks!

 

50 shot ran great on my car (stock), but all are different. I personally wouldn't recommend anything higher than a 50 shot unless you upgrade the engine management and get it tuned. I've got my old system up for sale if your interested.......i'll give you a good deal on it.

 

How long did you have the 50 shot hooked up for? How often did you give it some juice? Did the stock engine run okay after you took it out?

 

A few posters on this board are/were running the 55 shot of nitrous from a Zex wet kit with no problem. A few of them had the traditional mods (intake, midpipe, exhaust) + the 55 shot nitrous. If you add these (& a Canzoomer piggyback ECU) you lean out the engine a bit so can only use the 55 shot (but have a bit more hp gain when the bottle is off). One poster actually had a stock car with the 75 shot. I think Addictive has his Zex kit for sale.

 

I ran the 50 shot for about 2 months fairly regularly w/ no harm to the engine (checked compression b4 and after)......i have my zex kit for sale also fanman if you know any takers.

Iam running a 50 shot but hoping to bump up to 75 or 100 . right now iam looking into something that will pull back my timing when i activate the nitrous.So far no luck someone who used the canzzomer to do this had lots of problems so i would not go that route.
