how does the new lancer Evolution and the rx-8 compare in a road race ie: 1/4 and auto x?

Evo will win, by quite a bit.

 

evo is the better performer in the turns and in the straights without a doubt. The rx8 is probably the better vehicle in every other way though, with performance that is good enough that you'll never feel like you're in a slow car.

 

The EVO will win in just about every performance category and the adrenaline factor , but the RX8 will offer good performance with other nice features. The RX8 has a nicer interior and exterior and will have a more comfortable ride. The RX8 also has a really nice gearbox (though the EVO's is very good too) and offers the uniqueness of the rotary (smoothness, high reving, etc).

 

thanks for the info, im not sure which car to choose still, both very nice in there own way - ill wait for the 2004 evo's and see if any changes but the interior on the rx-8 has my mouth drooling...

Yet, in the Car and Driver review (read, driven by the same driver), the lap times for the RX-8 and G35C were .1 seconds apart.

Which is why you're an idiot for being a magazine racer (or TV magazine for that matter). Drive the car, find out if it's right for you. To each his own, except for block911 because we know his brain can't handle the options outside of the 'norm.'

The RX8 and the EVO are 2 different cars.
EVO has power and handling, but lack the interior design and other amenities that the RX8 has. The RX8 has good power, good handling and a great interior.
If you want an all out performance car, get the EVO. If you want a car that has good performance and a bit of luxury, get the RX8.

Now of you want to compare barebones sports cars, compare the EVO to the 3rd gen RX7. The 7 would beat it in every category.
But it's not a fair comparison. They are 2 different cars also.

This is like saying a Ferrari is better than a Civic and vice versa. Better at what? Better at being a sports car? Sure. Better at being a grocery getter and family hauler? Not quite.

Each car has their own qualities and faults.
Drive them and see which one you like better. In the end, it all comes down to opinion.

That being said, the RX7 was the better track car and its performance was legendary.

in term of acceleration, stock evo own both stock rx-7 and stock rx-8 i guarantee you

in term of handling capabilities, given equal power, they are on par (i am not really sure, but imo, it will be goes to rx-7, evo 8, then rx-8)
