From 145 to 188 RWHP on Mustang Dyno

I'll finish up this thread when I get home and scan my sheets.

== EDIT ==

Well, with reservations to the results, here is the summary:
  • Custom map based on adding ignition advance up to 10 degrees and then reducing fuel up to 7%. Resulted to maximum of 188 HP and 125 TQ.
  • Custom map based on reducing fuel and get a close-to-flat AFR curve and then compensating advance timing to give 30 degrees. The guy that dynoed my car pulled out after 8000 rpm, of fear that my car might not make it due to heating. Result is hard to pinpoint. Disregard the dyno sheet that says 213 HP and 135 TQ. The chart shot up after letting go into neutral.
  • I have provided two scans of the dyno charts with AFR and two screenshots of my CANscan logs during the dyno runs.
  • My previous February Dyno on a Mustang resulted to 145 HP snd 112 TQ. After loading modified Stage 2 map, I ran a 156 HP and 116 TQ.
  • Both these separate Dyno runs were performed on an AWD Mustang Dyno.
  • The changes done since the first baseline dyno were R Flash, Hot Spark Plugs, RB Intake w/CAI and fresh CZ maps from scratch.

... As much as I'd like to dream that 188 HP on Mustang Dyno = 228 or 218 HP on dynojet, I would like to run on a dynojet some day to see how much it really is making in that kind of dyno. I want to know where this power stands in the preferred dyno platform where most RX-8s are pulling 170 - 190 HP.

Yeah, I went to the meet today looking to get Dyno'd. Got there around 11, signed up. It was about 3 hours and they were only on the 4th-5th car and I was a whiles down so I just left. It went me, 04Renesis, then Xyntax among the RX-8's order but me and 04Renesis left cause we had no idea how much longer it was going to take. I was out to dinner and Xyntax calls me and leaves a message telling me his dyno results... it was 7pm! Lol, I can't believe you stayed that long man, but well worth it. Sorry I didn't answer your call I was at dinner. Give us details! Wish I could of dyno'd

My avatar says M/T. I know why you might think it was an Auto because it says 145 to 188 :D

They were going to stop before my place was up, but we told them we have been waiting since noon. They ended up dynoing my RX-8 and Solaraguy's I4-to-V6-Swap's Supercharged V6 (1MZFE), which usually nets 245+ HP on dynojets. He got 217 HP and 211 TQ. We compared side-by-side by running and we were pretty much on the same level. He has higher power, but probably heavier and longer gearing. I have lower power but lighter and shorter gearing.

BTW, Hardhitter and 04renesis, FFTEC was giving rain checks to those who signed and paid in advance so that they can run the Dyno at their own preferred time at the same price. I wish you guys dynoed there too, so I could at least see if their Mustang dyno was outputting more power than EIP's mustang dyno or not. Since no one was there for me to compare consistency, I could take the S/C'ed 1MZFE engine's output. His was pretty consistent 217 HP Mustang Dyno to 245+ HP on Dynojets.

Luckily Solaraguy and Bayareatuners were there so I hung out with them. We pretty much passed time talking about anything.

I just checked the past threads where RX-8s have dynoed on Mustang dynos and there was one that put down 194 HP. Could Mustang dyno be inconsistent? I still can't believe this 188 HP with my minimalist mods. Could it have been a freak accident?

For those who dont know, Mustang dynos are known for giving 20 - 30 HP less than common dynojets. Come on, enlighten me here! I'm still not sure if I should get my hopes up about this.

^ Wow! How come your advance didn't drop down like it usually does? On my 188 HP map, I was doing added 5 - 9 degrees advance up top with just 2 - 7 fuel reduction. Pretty scary when I think about it.

You may have been talking about my car since I posted my mustang dyno awhile back. The results were 194hp and 164tq, but that was with my turbo! You've got some nice numbers there for NA.
Just to let you know I ran the car with the same setup a week later on a dynojet and got 218hp and 180tq. (mustang dynos usually have lower numbers).

Link and dynos are in this thread.

only one way to tell, go back to eip, and get it dyno there.

oh.. I should put it this way. the graph I showed is w/o cz unit. (or zero map).

Btw, drive it couple of day with different environment, and double the LTFT.

Very impressive gains with just ECU modification (AFR & Timing).

that's an incredible pull! Seems like you that advancing the timing that much might be a bit dangerous, as you guys know detonation = death to engine on a rotary...

nice results - I'm still confused as to why your car pulls timing out, but I will conceed to your awesome results.

BTW - what version of the CANSCAN are you using (regular or CZ)? I've been trying to comprehend why the two read differently, how they stack up compared to a regular O2 sensor, and why the regular version (and scanalyzer) seem to always show afr's in the 11's and a regular dyno does not.

one other question - was your previous dyno on an AWD Mustang dyno as well, or a regular 2wd one?

- To IzoomzoomI, that's exactly what I was thinking of doing. I would need to run at EIP again just to see how consistent this gain is.
- To cleoent, too much advance = death to rotary was always on my mind since the day I tried it out. But I also think that heat kills the rotary. As long as I keep my AFR below, say 13.5, even with high ignition advance (44 max), I would still be able to keep it running without knocking. After 8000, I just let the ECU take over again, but due to the increased heat within the chambers, AFR would still be around the range I want. I call it "riding the AFR" instead of controlling it. The extra fuel it pump after 8000 rpm, helps ensure chamber-cooling-fuel to prevent the AFR from rising too much.
- To r0tor, timing was pulled at the last run because my coolant was already exceeding over 235 degrees. Canzoomer has advised me about this before that the ECU will go on a "safe mode" if temps reach certain threshold points. I'm using CANscan version 360 Fast. I have been tuning using lambda, targetting 0.89 - 0.94. I'm always fearing 1.0+ in high rpms. The reason why I show 11:1 AFR is because I converted the lambdas into AFR per SAE formula of lambda x 14.63. Those 11's would be 0.76 rockbottom AFR on my logs.
- To adrian-1, Holy ****! That was with the turbo already? My memory tells me it was because of your bolt on mods or something. Your 196HP turbo is pretty close to my 188HP N/A then! :D

And yes this was on an AWD Mustang Dyno. I have never tested my car on a dynojet. Also. these were done in 4th gear. Pretty consistent in that aspect because my baseline numbers were also done in 4th gear.

Damn it Xyntax I can't believe you stayed until 7pm. Your results are damn impressive, and judging by what i have seen on the internet with comparisons to dynojet vs mustang dynos you are well over 200 hp to the wheels and that is awesome! congrats on your run, i will be looking to you as soon as the E-Manage Ultimate is out! So keep tuning your uhhh tuning skills haha peace out man. Congrats on a great run!

I'd like to point out that, after looking at my graphs again and again, my HP curves didn't really change much except after 7000 rpm or so. I noticed that my torque curve was a bit flatter than stock. This is probably why my peak HP is at 8000+ instead of 6K or 7K where most RX-8s would peak out.

If you think about it, my car isn't pulling more power than usual except for the top end. Most HP curves would start dropping flat where mine climbs higher.

I thought peak HP was around 8500 on a stock rx...
