I'll be in L.A. for some training this coming Monday (Aug. 29th). I'll be staying for a few days at the Hilton on Canoga Ave off the Ventura Fwy, Highway 101. Can anybody suggest some after-hours places to eat and/or nightlife. I'm going solo and don't have friends or contacts in L.A.
Any suggestions would be appreciated, anything to keep me from being bored and sitting in my hotel room at night.. Thanks!

 

Hey Brother I'm right in that area! Depending on what's your fancy for food, there should be plenty available at anytime of the day. In-and-Out is always an after hours favorite around the Canoga/Ventura area. How long are you staying? We welcome you to L.A., PM me if we're able to offer any hospitality.

 

Doo... you driving your 8 down? Or flying down? Perhaps some of the LA people can set up an impromptu meet... :P

 

Sadly, I'm flying down since I'll be there only 3 days, but I wouldn't mind joining a mini rx-8 meet in my rented white 4-door sedan..

check out koreatown, lots of bars clubs and hot girls u can check out. great small little places to eat. one of my favorites is wakko (katsu joint) on wilshire.

Dude you need to get here early and go to the fairgrounds in Pomona.

The ZOOM ZOOM event is on and you can drive new Mazdas on a course for free!

That's Sunday! Be there early or be square.

 

Nightlife... check out Hollywood/Sunset area... try Dublins, or if your flavor is a bit more Asian, you can try Miyagi's... Those are pretty standard affairs.

Then there are food places to try... Geisha or Mr Chows. Might see some fancy people's along the way.

Shopping areas to check out... "The Grove" at Farmer's market, or 3rd Street Promenade in Santa Monica.

 

Hey there... If you like Garlic there is a place i believe on La Ciegena called The Stinking Rose. Its AWSOME. Im in Northridge... not far from your hotel. It would take about 30min from where u are.

 

That place is pretty cool.

 

you should go to forumla d this weekend in irwindale,. Its gonna be hot out there but alot of cali's top show cars will be there. It's about 30 mins from L.A.

 

Get ready for tons of tickets. My friend that works for the OC Sheriffs dept. warned me that the LA County Sheriffs and such are going to be at Irwindale citing people as they leave... No front plates, Tint, Modified exhausts, Lowered vehicles, Fun times. Time for you to drive your beater CRX

 

thanks for the tip cho...speaking of tickets i got my first speeding ticket in my 8 last night =(. It was on the 405 N in the carson area...out of all the times i speed on the freeway he got me going 80 mph at 9pm with zero traffic. I want to fight it. Think I have much of a fight?

on another note... 80 FREEKING MPH!!! JEEZ LEWEEZ!...sorry had to vent

How old are you? Monday is a pretty bad club night. I think the 740 has a tuesday thing, but might be for 18+ which is a bit of a drag. Ivar is ok still I think. I haven't been there in a while.

For the tuesday/wednesday crowd, you're better off going to a bar like the Whiskey Lounge at the W.

If you like steak, Taylor's in Ktown serves up awesome steak for about half the price of their competitors in WestHo/BevHills. Plus it is practically the only remaining steak house in Ktown that's been in business since like the 50's when there was Koreatown.

There are shitloads of sushi restaurants on Ventura blvd. Most are pretty decent. But since you're in the area, look for an italian restaurant called "La Traviatta"(?) or something like that. Awesome food.

Too bad you're coming down on a weekday. Anything on thurs-sun trip and I might have been able to hook you up.

 

Eek, Dublins is closed. I just went searching on the Yahoo Things to do in LA deal and it was still on it. Could of sworn it was still there...

The last club I went to was 2+ years ago at Century club and it was rather tacky.. Asian Night on Thursday.... lots of old white men stalking young Asian girls. Yellow fever I tell ya.

btw, I hate Stinking Rose. Their food is overpriced, and mediocre. Almost like Lowry's.. but at least they taste good... but overpriced.

I think outlaw extreme meant... Lawrys where the Rose bowl football teams eat the night before. It's across the street almost from the Beverly Center. Great prime rib and cream of corn!

you should check that place out... average plate would be around 30-50 dollars? probably more if u get a bottle of wine and wat not.

if you love garlic, yah i guess stinking rose would be good for you. they are a bit overpriced for the quality of food, but i know ppl who LOVE garlic and just LOVE the stinking rose. that is across the street from Lawrys too so yah.

Thanks for the suggestions, I'll do some research on some of those spots... I can't deal with the 18+ clubs, it's hard to just stomach a lot of the 21 clubs with all the posers.
