I think some grey tone or even silvery would look nice. There's a blue in a silver or Ti car that's been on ebay recently. I didn't care for that myself.

Um... You can only order what the factory offers. And that's only Black or Black and Red.

Your dealer can install whatever leather you want, but it will be an added fee upwards of $1000. And they could do that with any car on the lot anyhow.

I think your combo sounds great. I have a Titanium Grey, and if they'd have offered that combo for no extra charge, I would have taken it.

they are LIEING they are NOT ordering a car for you from factory. they are using a car they have that is close and getting AFTERMARKET LEATHER put on the seats. Look at the Mazdausa website. there are only 3 leather choices PERIOD. All black, Black and Read or Black and Chapparel. Nothing else comes from factory. they are snowing you. and they are going to charge you for it somewhere in the fine print.

What is the name of the dealership?

You guys have had too much caffeine today. He said the dealer would do this and may have misunderstood where it was getting done. For the same price as the factory leather/power/heat package, it sounds like they'll do custom leather through a local shop for him. Is this not right, skillz?

I'm trying to picture the black inside charcoal and I don't think they'll be much contrast there. Check Classic Soft Trim and go to products>leather>leather colors or to Katzkin to check out the color choices. They should be able to show you color swatches at the dealer or the install shop, too. You can also get perforations, contrasting piping, stitching and logos done on the seat.

There's no way the dealer is going to order a GT, remove the stock leather and install custom leather, and just eat the cost. They're going to make it up somewhere and then some. They could install the leather on a Touring model and have the added cost of the leather offset the price difference and you could even get heated seats, but you wouldn't get the power seats or heated mirrors.

You could get it done yourself for less than they'd charge and be able to sell the stock leather that you removed on your own to recoup a substantial portion of the costs.

Things like "If you order it you can pick your leather" are just common practices to scam people out of extra money by making them think if they pay a premium for "special ordering" their car they can get special options.

There's nothing wrong at all with a dealer letting you pick your leather. It's pretty cool in fact. Just be aware of the fact that it's not Mazda factory leather (it will probably be better) and be aware of what they're charging you for it. Nothing is free.

Your dealer isn't doing you a favor. All dealers will do custom leather. They just don't make it out to be some special thing from the factory that you get to do "just because you're ordering it". They'll do it with any car on the lot.

No one doubts what you're saying. What you said the dealer told you is probably exactly what they said -- it's just not true. And when a dealer embellishes things like that there's good reason to believe they're embellishing other things a little bit. That's why people ask to know the name of the dealer -- so they can turn people away from it when they inevitably come here asking about certain dealers in their area.

But, yes, I'd run with Charcoal/Grey if I had to choose leather for a Titanium Grey car.

If you're getting the Touring Package it makes sense. No leather from the factory, they'll replace the stock cloth covers with custom leather and you'll miss out on power seats and heated seats & mirrors of the Grand Touring Package at the same price. Saves you some weight & future breakage & the leather is way better looking & unique. From the few quotes I've seen on the site, the guys who used dealers to get the leather generally paid a few hundred less than those of us who did it ourselves. As long as you've done all your math and broken down the lease properly, you should be good.

Enjoy the car!

To see what you're dealer is going to do, go here: http://www.classicsofttrim.com

You can see all of the colour swatches, and even download a PDF with the layout of the RX-8 interior pieces so you can see where the main and accent colours will be on the seats/side panels/etc.

Unless they use Katzkin instead.... hopefully they use Classsic Soft Trim.

If you find that someone put the leather on OVER the cloth, refuse delivery. I've seen unspeakably horrible results that way. They will have to remove the cloth and replace it with the new leather.

Didn't your original post say you don't like the red inserts. What changed you mind?

Black/Custard

I have Black with Custard on mine I think it looks great. Sporty yet luxerious at the same time. I'll post some pics later today. BTW it cost me 1500$ extra when I bought the car. Also ask the dealer the types of leather that are available because there are better quality ones out there. You get what you pay for.

Just to throw an idea out there - I think the Ti would look great with a dusty lavender for the leather inserts. Please no "ghey" comments. It's just a nice combo.

But really what you need to do is get the swatches of any colors you're interested in and take them to a car with the right exterior color and cloth seats. That's what we did with ours and ended up getting slightly different colors than we'd thought just from looking at the swatches themselves.

Guess how many time I have gotten dogged for saying, "it's not beige! It's Custard damnit!" :p When your a man and it comes to your car, you're allowed to use prissy terms like custard...or...dusty lavender. :p
