volk rims and stock lug nuts?

I was just wondering -- since the volk rims come w/ a flat bottom lug nut, will the use of the stock silver lug nuts put an unnecessary strain or any harm to the volk gt-c rims? Can i just use the stock lug nuts?

does anyone know?

You've bought Volk GTCs... why not just spend another 125+ bucks and get the Rays lugs. :P I think they deserve the bling.

But ya, it could cause some strain to the wheels.

the reason being -- i don't want my rims to get stolen, and i don't know if the lugs come w/ a special lock -- like the stock ones... that's the reason i want to stick w/ the stock lug nuts. Also, rays lugs are black... no part of my rim is black... so i want to just keep the stock lug nuts b/c of the lock and b/c they match the lip.

The Ray's lugs comes with a special key that is specific for each set. Can't be more difficult to crack than that.

But to let you know, if a thief really wants a your rims, they can just break the set... takes some force, but thieves can take anything of your's if they want to. That's just the way it is.

Rays lugs are black, blue, red.

My dad always said, "locks only keep honest people out" and the same will apply to lugnuts no matter what kind you use. All the aftermarket lugnut companies make lock sets and they use anywhere from 50 to 100 different lock combos.

I think he's not satisfied with the Rays Lug Nuts that usually accompany the Volk Rims. He can try other brand that are Silver in color. People usually opt to get the colored ones to match their calipers.

I have Blue calipers, so I went with Blue lugs.

The lugs on the stock 18" OEM wheels for our cars are pretty tacky with the Volk rims... it's like BLING and then Blah.

Well, the reason i want to use the stock is b/c the polished lip on my gt-c's match them perfectly. But the stock lug nuts have that sphere-ish bottom to them...

i'm more than satisfied w/ the rims -- they're gorgeous... but the lug nuts are naRSty!! So, there's my dilemma.

This is how the Ray's lug nuts look close up.
(You don't like them!?)
Mine came with the wheels when I ordered them.
Got them from a forum vendor.

You sure those are Rays Black Lug Nuts? They aren't suppose to have a hollow point, they are suppose to be solid... like these...

But what's another $120 when you just forked over 2k+ for rims? :P

If money is tight, save up until you get them... trust me, nothing completes a set of Volks like nice Lugs. It's like having ugly shoelaces with brand new shoes.

if 120 get you insurance and look, why not?
i have a set at home just doesn't have time to put them on, i'm using the stock ones now. it's really not a big deal what lugs you're using but like outlaw have said, you've already spend like 2K+, why not another 120? if you think it's too much, then stay with the stock one.

the OE lug nuts suck, I would highly recommend replacing them, I know several ownes who had OE lug nuts gall and booger up/break wheel studs. Not sure if it's related to the new higher torque spec or not, but it's happening.

They also have a cheap chromed cap that will eventually start to show rust, Mine were only several months old and were starting to show some around the seam between the cap and the lug.

I received a really nice set of nuts with my SSR wheels. They use the same 60 deg cone seat as OE but are polished 1-pc. The OE are 2-pc with that cheap chromed cap press fit in. Somebody told me their local stealer wanted $9 each for the OE nuts, yeah right

TEAMrx, that's the exact info i was looking for. I guess, although i can use the stock nuts, it's not recommended and may put an extra strain on the rims themselves. Thanks for all the help guys... i'll be purchasing (sigh) a new set of rays lug nuts!!

I showe the pic to my friend that works at Mackin and he said they don't make Rays with a hollow center, should be solid... Maybe they are the older version he said, since he has only been working there for 2 years. Could be repacked?

If you check on Ebay and most of the import shops that carry the Rays lugs, they are not hollow centers.
