4AT and 5AT RX8

4AT and 5AT RX8
Hi all,
have just ordered my RX8 from a PI in Singapore and I remember it was a 5AT unit, but reading the threads here, it seems that it's a 4AT...
Did I read wrongly? or is there really 2 versions? one 4AT and a 5AT...
If there are indeed 2 different specs, wat's the difference between the 2? I suppose the 5AT has a better drive? or faster in performance??
Pls advise as this is my 1st performance car and I'm really poor when it comes to all the performance cars and mods...

Think you are refering to the two auto versions, normal auto and Type E auto. Normal auto is like your regular auto car. Type E has the tiptronic gear, meaning you have both auto functions as well as the manual function (you see M with + and -). Both are 4 speed. Hope this helps.

AT comes with both auto functions....
The type E comes with more accessories...

Mine's has the tiptronic thing... with the M and "+" "-"...
Is that a Type E??
How do I know if mine's Type E with more accessories, from wat I know, mine has a immobiliser... :P

In the wheels magazine here in Australia it has been reported that the NEW 6 speed automatic for the new MAZDA MIATA MX5 will be put into the 2006 RX8 , IF YOU CAN WAIT DO SO THIS 6 SPEED AUTOMATIC IS FAR SUPERIOR TO THE CRAPPY 4 SPEED ONE CURRENTLY IN THE RX8.
Every magazine i have read has canned the 4 speed automatic in the RX8 when the new 6speed automatic in 2006 arrives the value of the current 4 speed one will fall rapidly , so if you can ....WAIT FOR THE 6 SPEED AUTOMATIC , this is the automatic that should have been put in the RX8 in the first place the 4 speed sucks big time .
