Question Neon Underbody kits - legality??

Hey guys I'm from the great state of North Carolina.
I can't seem to find what color neon lights are legal or illegal for my Titanium Gray RX-8. Hopefully, I'll be getting green on the outside and red interior, if it looks right (a.k.a. unlike a christmas tree). However, I can't find out if red interiors are illegal in NC or not. Any information anyone knows or can find would be great!

Thanks! :D

I believe all neon or l.e.d's underbodykits are all illegal. I'm having the Street Glow gold series installed but will not turn it on often if ever while driving because you'll get pulled over easily.

Not to mention that if you should be exceeding the speed limit (which I know none of us do), it is real easy for the PD to follow your "glowing" car.

I know certain l.e.d.'s or neons aren't illegal... For example, green and yellow aren't for sure. The thing that I was mainly curious about was the inside... I was wanting to put some red on the inside because everything else on the RX-8 has red accents (when you turn your lights on, look at the ring outside the volume control). And I'm looking to get a radar detector installed so that I won't have to worry AS much about cops!

Thanks though, and I think I'm looking at Streetglow too Tru681.. Tell me how yours looks when you get the chance.

Well, over six years ago when I had them the laws (for Indiana) were 1) no exposed bulbs (must be hidden under the body), and 2) no emergency vehicle colors (red and blue). Take that with a grain of salt because I was hassled for having hidden, teal lights and a friend got a $300 ticket for blue LED windshield washer lights.

I guess California is different because my installer told & warned me specifically that all neon & led undercar kits are illegal before I agree to do the install with my custom audio system. I got the Street Glow Gold series in neo blue color. It's not installed yet. It's kinda a long story but to put it kinda short, Custom work takes time & usually takes Longer than expected. All of my custom pieces built for the car's interior & trunk are finally painted but the bodyshop did not do a good job on it.It was not smoothed out completely & has to be redone, about 16 custom pieces. I have to wire the undercar neon kit & all the neons in the trunk/interior to my Clifford G5 Advantguard alarm & along with my audio system so I'm still waiting patiently for that before having it installed. I will post the pictures of the neon kit when it gets done but it'll probably take another 1-2 weeks to have all the stuff re-preped & painted, install the Clifford Advanguard G5 alarm alone takes almost a whole day, & also tune & tweek the audio system will also take a while to do it right because I have 2-30band 1/3octave equalizers.

Check your local laws concerning neon. Here in Lexington you can use any color under your car as long as the bulbs are not exposed. On the inside of the car you can use any color other than red.

U cant see it from the side like other cars that install tubes, mine sits flush, not visible at all.

Brought up both sides behind fender liners up to engine bay,

Finished Product (i couldnt install the last one because the exhaust will melt it so i have to figure out how im gonna mount in behind the rear heat shield or i will just put it in my trunk.

Yes you are right, however i know my freeway over here (14) and what parts cop usualll hang out at or what not and i do drive most of the freeway with the lights on. In the city i usually only turn them on when im driving into shopping centers (mall, walmart, targert, gas stations, getting off of work, etc.) The switch is under the steering column, If you know this piece then you know where it goes.

^shut ur mouth you
I did have so many "haters" on the freeway coming home from work last night. They were all trying to race or catch up just to look at my car.

Red, Blue, Green and possibly white are going to be the colors that get you into the most trouble. Making sure the bulbs are not visible is also very important.

Red is going to be the worst color because a vehicle, in any state, isn't allowed to have red light coming from anywhere on the front of the vehicle.

For the most part, there's nothing anybody can do as long as your parked. There's a BMW showcar here in Arizona that is a mocked up M3 German police car with red/blue strobes and the whole works. He gets away with it since he's always parked when running lights.

Blue is illegal ANYWHERE on the car because it is only for emergency vehicles (e.g. cops, ambulance, etc.) -- I got pulled over for blue on my '02 Mustang.

Red is illegal anywhere on the front or front half of the sides of the vehicle.

Yellow I believe is legal all around but i'm not sure.

White will be illegal on the rear and rear half of the sides because it is showing that you are in reverse to the people behind you when you're really driving forwards.

Green just looks stupid... :D

depends on the state, regulations are different, in Kentucky, no red blue or green showing to the front of the vehicle
