Afreind of mine is going to do his surgical residency at Jamaica Hospital in Queeens. he's looking for a place to buy/rent and wants to know abotu the area a little.
Kew Gardens, Forest Hills, Jamaica, and the surrounding towns is the area he's looking at. got some opinions on which are the better areas or the best among those?

well here is my preference of areas
Forest Hills
Kew Gardens
Jamiaca

Forest Hills is prob the most expensive of the 3. Lots of luxury buidlings are coming up there. Forest Hill has a lot of Yuppies and has a decent bar scene. In addition its got an express train to the city, which takes about 15 mins. Forest Hills also has alot of families, has a pretty big russian population. If he is interested in a luxury rental check out http://www.parkertowers.com

Kew Gardens, is the town ower. A more of family oriented community with alot of Jewish families. If your friend is interested in buying this will be a little more affordable. They have some really nice Pre-War buildings. I am not sure about renting in KG alot of hte buildings are coops which do not allow to sublet. I am sure there are rentals there, just never looked personally. For KG check out http://www.crossingsrealty.com

Both FH and KG have the E train which goes right to Jamaica Hospital.

Jamaica is pretty big it has alot of smaller communities, which personally i would not move into. There are some nicer areas like Jamaica Estates. Thats really all i know about Jamaica, I usta work all around jamaica and know i wud never want to live there. Transportation isnt the easiest.

If your friend has a car he might want to look into areas like Fresh Meadows where you will find top floors of peoples house for rent at affordable prices.

tell your friend to check out http://realestate.nytimes.com or http://newyork.craigslist.org

Personally I like towns close to the city, since the city is just a great place to be. I really like Forest Hills probably cuz I grew up in the town over Rego Park.

Hope that helps and tell your friend best of luck. Let me know if you need anythign else.

newyork.craigslist.org is a great place to look...

Does he plan to drive or take a subway? If driving he also has to worry about parking. so might think of bayside which is nice also.
