Question about tires

My RX8 is about ready for some new tires, and I would like to get some affordable tires that have good performance. I liked the stock tires, but I would like to see if there are any cheaper tires with the same performance. Thank you for your help.

The top 3 or 4 on either of those lists will be beter then the stock 040s.

Single (Summer Season) :

Toyo T1S/T1R
Falken Azenis RT-615
Kumho MX

All/3 Season

BF Goodrich Comp TA KDW2
Pirelli PZero Nero

Also look at 245/40/18's it fits the stock rim fine & it is available in more tires. The 225/45/18 is a somewhat odd tire size.

Tires are a tough thing to call, because peoples' preferences are different, conditions are different, and cars are different. Many people like Kumho MX, for example, and I hate them. And I've driven on them the last 10k miles, so I speak from experience . Grip like crazy, and that's about all they do well. But that's just what I think. Guys I respect a great deal and can drive better than I think they're wonderful.

That said, if you're looking for a good, cheap tire, we've had good luck with the Avon Tech M500 on both a Maxima (yeah, I know, a family sedan, but it's a 6spd at least!) and a 350Z. The Z also came with RE040s stock, and the Avon is a better tire in every way I can think of. Another big plus of the Avon, if you do many track or autox events, is that it's not directional, so you can switch sides if you're wearing tires on one side of the car faster than the other. You can do that with directionals too, but of course you have to get them remounted inside-out.

I could get you Avons in 245/40 for $610 shipped, which I think is a touch cheaper than the Tire Rack after shipping.

The Toyo T1-S is a fantastic tire, and is one we sell, but at $780 for four it kind of gets out of what one might call the 'affordable' realm.

Email sales@dpeweb.com if you'd like more info. Pointing out the Avon because we think it's a great tire for the money, but what the guys suggested above who aren't trying to sell anything is equally good advice .

Regards,

Phil
