What is that sound??

From the first day I got my RX-8 I have noticed a mechanical locking sound coming from the front of the car every time I drive the car right after starting it. I think it is normal, but does anyone know what the heck it is??

It's the ABS system doing a "self check" - Welcome to the obsession!

What exactly is the self check doing that it makes that noise?? Every time I hear it I feel like I just ran over a giant rock that slammed against the bottom of my car.

I'm not sure what it's doing, but it is part of the self check. My Nissan Murano does the same thing.

How do you like the Murano? I want to replace my Escape with one.

ABS self check. read the manual or do a search for "clunk" or "thunk"
