HKS F-Con Vpro

Has anyone used this on an 8 yet? I have some experience using this device on Supras and FD's and just noticed that HKS released the RX8 specific FCON harness (http://www.hksusa.com/products/?id=2026&rsku=6005).

This is an extremely popular and powerful device and I would be interested to see if anyone has had any success with it on the 8.

Thanks in advance...

I dont know a whole lot about engine management systems, so how does this differ from the Greddy Emanage? If it differs at all.

GReddy is a piggy back system. the HKS FCON, AEM, and Apexi Power FC are all stand alones. of course, i didn't mention all the other ones like Haltec, etc. etc.

It would provide the same function as a CZ, fuel and timing, and it can store up to 4 different maps. It does look interesting, good find.

FCON is also a piggy back. It is not an ECU replacement. It does essentially the same sort of things as the E-Manage.
I had one on my Conquest TSi.

FCON is a standalone ECU.... juz like apexi power FC......

however i dun tink it is available for rx8 yet. the harness is to replace our stock harness only....

Let me rephrase that. It is a piggy back in the sense that the factory ECU stays in place the HKS F-CON V-Pro simply takes over the ignition and fuel duties.
Its not like the Link or FC that you rip out your entire PCM and replace it with this.
Its more akin the the Tec3 or SDS.

I'd be very curious to see how people do with this thing - I always liked the unit other than it requiring an HKS "Power Dealer" in order to tune or even access it.

Just an FYI, it can completely replace the stock ECU if you wish.

Not exactly.

The FCON just controls fuel and ignition. It will not control your power steering, air conditioning, TCS/DSC, speedo, tach, gauge cluster, alarm, etc.
A true PCM replacement (like the Link) will swap in for the PCM.
The FCON cannot do this.

The FCON was designed in a day when the OEM PCM was just a fuel computer. It cannot be used as a PCM replacement on a vehicle like the RX-8.

I wasn't talking specifically for an RX8 application - most vehicles I have ever worked with have not had central ECU controlled ps, ac, etc etc. The FCON does have adjustable outputs for speedo/tach/hvac to operate those.

The point is, it is not an ECU replacement and it is programmed a bit differently than a true stand-alone, though it can function as a main fuel/ignition controller.

At $1400 for the base unit, $400 for the harness and without access to programming software, it is a bit of a reach for the RX-8 compared to other choices - especially by the time you have purchased all of the sensors, coils and ballast.

I am installing Vpro on my car

I am getting the Vpro, its been something I wanted to replace the Emanage with. Yes, its functionalities are similar but by far, the Vpro has way more features ... but you ahve to get it profressionally tuned. Oh, and I have the custom RX8 harness for the Vpro as well.

Pain = Greddy

So far, everything else is in, even the radiator ... The ONLY thing missing is that damn Greddy kit!

I feel like flying to Greddy Japan and freakin' row boatin' that kit over to the US myself .. i feel it may expedite things here.

are you yanking my chain? I've been told US backorder for months. Hmm .. well, I got the kit for a fairly good price at Intense, I got the kit for $2852.60. Now, their website says $3075. I wonder why the price changed and I wonder why I didn't get the turbo.

I don't know, reading Jeff's post and if its true, then i guess it isn't. I guess Intense is either screwing me into waiting and cancelling the order or they'll call me asking for more money.

I paid for it using credit card ... I figured something was up .. they've really been giving me really lame excuses .. they even told me that I didn't really spend that much like other customers, implying why I shouldn't receive any preferrential treatment. I just asked if they could send me an email every week or two about the status. They won't, they claim they have no clue when it'll arrive.

That would be enough to get me on the phone with my credit card company...

This guy on ebay has one at a good price: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...tem=7976487980

I've dealt with him before and everything was smooth.
