Tri state region HPE days- Pocono-

Anyone here coming up to the SCCA event June 18th or 19th. Get to drive a track course, 2.5 miles, with instruction for the new drivers, help for the semi-skilled, and room on the track for the pros. Been to Pocono, east, north and south courses, never in an 8, but in the SC miata. Anyone ever do the SCCA club racing loop at Pocono?

While I here, anyone been to Summit Point? Going to try that too, June 4th, but have no idea what to expect, besides it's a real road course. Did VIR years ago, and was not a happy boy... One miata, lots of Porsches, vettes, and other fast things, and RAIN...
Just trying to see what I can expect, as I won't bring my 8 out yet, as it's not paid for completly, unlike the highly modded STO, with JRSC coldside with CAI.

Hope to hear some input on these days.

Will not be able to make the 6/18 event but I did the Pocono long course last year
https://www.rx8club.com/rx-8-racing-25/weekend-track-pda-36124/
and will do it again this year. If your going with an 8 the key to high speed is getting through the infield section fast. If you can hit the high bank turn at 100 + you might be able to hit the tunnel turn at 130+ before you have to brake. I will also be at Summit Point 6/4 & 6/5 with PDA who are you going with? if you are going with PDA drop me a PM.

The long track at Pocono is easy on the brakes, it's the shorter tracks that make you work them more. I would bring a " extra " set just in case. The Stock brakes & DOT 3 would be fine for this event.

Stock spec is DOT 3 / I did switch to DOT 4 ( ATE Blue ) & SS Brake Lines but I am also doing track days on some short tracks & ones with more turns than the Pocono Long.

expo1, I'm down at Summit, on the Sunday, the 5th of June.. not in the 8, stuck in the miata... the STO is better for the track, as it has Victoracer R tires, a harddog hard core bar, MOMO seats, 5 point harnesses, Koni shocks, Axxis pads, a coldsided Jackson M45 supercharger with CAI. The new Flying Miata duals sound nice, as the blower kicks the pressure up to 10" on full boost. The car is faster, the driver isn't really.
I know of what you speak about the course. I've done Pocono many times, south, north, and east sections. I really like the south course, leaving the pits CCW, and climbing the bank. I can get up to 100 mph very easily, but on the south one goes up the hill, dives into the turn, and climbs uphill again, to get to the right side of the bank, to allow the fast left 90 to happen. Gotta make that turn right, to come in fast thru the slight ess, but if it's done right, the ess comes a straight. Then the tight left, to the hairpin, and back out. It really fun to exit the south infield at 80, and charge up the hill again.
Now, I'm sure the 8 can do all this faster than a lowly miata, but the miata is paid off, and the 8 isn't. We did have an 8 out last summer for the Delval (delaware valley track days), and Steve, being the instructor he is, took his wifes 8 out, and was clipping along at 120 on the norht course's bowl, and came in a 110 into corner # 1... This slow_eddie won't try that, but entering a 90 isn't unknow to me at all.
Hope to see some of you at a HPDE... look for the loud oldish miata #57.

PS, DELVAL still has room for a HPDE day on August 1 and 2 on the north course, $200 for the day, and expert instruction provided on day 1. A nice way to try your car without being outclassed by viper and porsches, which are very likely to be on the track at a PDA or NASA event. Still, raw power isn't everything, rather skill... start slow, get smooth, get faster , then you'll have fun. I've seen too many newbies fly off the track , trying to push the car, not knowing car control at all. I even did one stint at instructing a kid in a neon, truboed, and that boy scared me. Raw power, no idea of a line.. one 20 minute session cured me of instruction fever.

$200 per day... new folks need to go monday the 1st, and have a little DE, experienced drivers can go either day, but tuesday the 2nd is less crowded. You folks in the 8 should overwhelm the little sissy miatae cars. Just learn the line first, and the wankle can iron out the wrinkles in the esses.. It's all about finess, not raw speed. All you need is $200, a teched car, and a helmet (we old fogeys have been know to lend). That $200 is for the DELVAL daze
PDAdrivingschool.com and NASAnortheast all have sites to visit, with prices shown. Phiilyscca.com also lists things too.
first gear eddie, never know to go over any limits
