How do you know when to wax?
How do you know when to wax?
Last car (first car) I had I didn't care about, some beater civic.
I already waxed my car a little while ago, but how do you know when you should do it again?
*tard*

I wax after every wash.
I do a full detail at the beginning of each season (strip wax, claybar, polish, wax). Then, after each wash (usually once a week.. sometimes once every other depending on weather) I hit it with another coat of wax. By the end of the year I usually have at least 30 coats of wax on her.....

Some people will argue that beading isn't as good an indication as most people believe, but it is better than nothing.
If I were you, I'd just plan to wax it every other month. Don't wait any longer. Most carnauba waxes do not last very long. If you notice it not beading before then, you'll need to adjust it to once a month.

I never really understood what "beading" was until I finally saw some pics of it...but good grief if beading were what I went by, I'd never have to wax for like a year probably. I tend to wax when it starts raining and I notice the water sticks to the car instead of just running right off. Which is right around 2-3 weeks for NXT. Have some Zaino coming in so hopefully that'll look better and last longer.
waxing gets pretty addicting for some people, I for one did my first wax job, took me fore...ver. once every few months is fine with me but it also depends on where you live.

I know this is an old thread but thought I'd post here instead of getting yelled at to search...
Is there such thing as too much wax? I like waxing my car, but didnt know if I should waxit after every wash. I dont have a clay bar yet if that makes a difference.

If your going to wax after every wash, make sure to strip the old stuff off first.
even though it may feel smooth, wax can get grains of dirt embedded in it. waxing over it, well is waxing over dirt

I've had my '05 Shinka for five months now, and have waxed it four times. I know, a bit much. Every other or third month is enough. I wash it weekly (Mr. Clean) and garage it though. But as fredw1 says, there is a therapeutic value.
