Bought radar detector, where are the cops?

Hey dallas area 8's, I recently bought an Escort Passport X50 after narrowly avoiding a speeding ticket. Trouble is now that I have the detector I haven't seen any cops in the last few days, and I'm itching to see if this thing works. Do you guys/gals know what type of equipment cops are using around here (radar/laser)? Where are common places to find speed traps or cops on the highways?

Thanks,
A

I don't know of any speed traps in Dallas, but everytime I try to pass somebody who is going REALLY slow in the fast lane (ok, maybe they're going the limit but it feels slow :D ) I end up going around just to see a cop waiting on the side. Maybe you should try that.

This is a new twist on the old "never a cop when you need one" theory. :D

Do what I do - mind your business and drive courteously. It seems to attract them like flies, judging by the way they follow me around.

If you're only really driving in rush hour, I wouldn't expect to see too many. They stay pretty busy with all the wrecks...

Come to Waxahachie...they are sitting on every exit ramp right now. Not really sure why, but they have been here for about a week or so.

Not sure if they are clocking though. I took an exit ramp today at about 85 only to look up and wave at one sitting on the side of the road facing me.

There's a little town N/NW of Houston called Stagecoach. They've got only 1 cop. I guarantee you will find him if you go there. I did last week. He was so impressed that my car would do 5 mph more than the speed limit that he asked me for my autograph on a nice pink piece of paper. What a guy.

Man, you should have been on 20 between dallas and Terrell yesterday.
There was a cop or trooper about every 10 miles!

You won't see many cops around during rush hour. Head out on a weekend and try it out. Not only are they busy with wrecks, but pulling people over on crowded roads is dangerous and only causes more traffic.

But if you want cops, and don't want to drive far from 820, get on 35W and head up to the Racetrack. It's about a 15 minute drive, but it's a rare day when there isn't a North Lake cop on the freeway and a few State Troopers too. I used to make the commute from Haltom City to Denton everyday, I could damn near give you all their real names. They're in a variety of marked and unmarked cars -- look for the usual marked Crown Vics, but also marked and unmarked White or Black F-150s, and White or Black Camaros. The Black ones are actually marked, but the marking is a dark purple and virtually impossible to see outside of 20 feet.

The area also has the added plus of being very remote, so you shouldn't have any problem with the detector picking up feedback like you do in-town.

Here's a helpful hint though: Don't pass the State Troopers. One pulled me over for going 2mph over the limit because I had the apparent gall to pass her while she attemped to hinder traffic by pacing a semi truck and forcing us to drive behind a rock truck pelting our cars with rocks. No ticket (the Judge wouldn't laughed me out of the courtroom had I walked in with a ticket fo 2MPH on a freeway where 15-20 over is the natural flow of traffic) but she tried her damnedest, inspecting my car from head-to-toe to find something to ticket me for and took about 30 minutes to write the ticket too.

Come down to Austin. Drive anywhere near Lake Travis on the weekend. They'll find you.

take 114 west out to bridgeport.
There's 2 at the bridge entering town and 2 at the bridge leaving.

All along 1604 there are cops. Most of them are empty and sitting there just to scare people and some have cops in them. They seem to be rotating them b/c sometimes the empty ones have cops in them and the ones that did have them dont! Dont know why they are doing that though, Maybe b/c of all the accidents lately

Not sure how the laws are in TX yet, but in GA the only cops who can pull you over for less than 10mph over are Stateys. They usually won't unless you are like 9 over in a 35 that they happen to be passing thru.

I have seen a "Constable" (why a constable?) set up his radar in the school zones off of Shady Grove in Irving for weeks at a time. But I havn't seen him this week.... 635 near the Galleria, 114 in Las Colinas and Loop 12 near Illinois have radar from time to time. I have no way of knowing what types of radar

If you venture south of Forth Worth in Alvarado near 35W and Hwy 67 you will see the town's major source of revenue generation giving out tickets for less than 7 over the limit.

BTW, I've been very lucky NOT to get any tickets yet. I did get 3 warnings in one stop between Austin and Dallas for 1) failing to vacate a lane adj. to an emergency vehicle. 2) no front plate (but officer...the bunny look) 3) rear plate was slightly covered with a lic. plate frame holder.
