I did not finish the whole thing (and don't get me wrong...thanks for posting) but I'm just not very interested in drifting. If someone gave me free tires and a car to practice in...then it would be a hoot, but for me to get involved with it...just does not make sense to me.

"The RX-8 may be the hardest rear-wheel-drive car out there to drift."
Funny, compared to autocrossing a BMW 540i or Honda S2000, I find the RX-8 way more tail-happy. But then the partial/full throttle technique they described to drift an RX-8 is exactly what I tend to do in an autocross.

I'm not either, but I figured someone would probably be interested.

Well, they said something about having the tach pegged at 9k rpm and it wouldn't break loose... then like a paragraph later they suddenly had it all figured out... so you might be right here!

Also, they were too stupid to swap the rear tires, and they don't seem to understand the concept of downshifting.

And then there was the guy who made a RHD 240SX just so it would look "J-spec."

Overall, I feel I am stupider for having read that article...

oh geez, leave it to the pros, they (as in Tsuchiya and co.) drift an 8 in the Hot version 73 discussed in another post and it drifts fine.

what a bunch of idiots. They claim they dont really know how to drift.....and then they beat on the RX-8 for "not drifting well enough". Im not into drifting at all with my car, but people should not just critisize the equipment if they dont know how to use it. Its like a golfer complaining that his hockey stick doesnt have the proper curve.....what the hell does he know???

Hey you know something, I don't know how to drift for s*** but I do it around corners very well in my 8. For someone like me not knowing much about it, I'd have to say that the 8 did most of the work.

probably not even the author's car. i imagine it was the company's car. and even if it was his actual car, i doubt he paid for the tires. seeing how it was a work related expense. either way edmunds most likely payed for the reg. fee and the tires.

and as for the actual potenzas, thats no real loss there

fun to read since the article was so POORLY done...but the pro was right 'very hard to drift' well drift properly that is for most people

Whoever said the DCS or TSC was on was right...they would have mentioned it in the article...they didn't so either they had a base model by chance or they are too embarrassed for not picking it up .

i bet you they did. Since when did edmunds become experts on any form of racing/drifting???

The RX8 is very easy to drift if you want too.

im pretty sure that pfieffer would've told them to turn the traction control off because he wasn't the only car with traction control (350z)

i know its only 1 of the 6 methods mentioned in those drift king "instructional" videos, but you can initiate a drift in the 8 useing the "power over" technique very easily. never tried the e-brake method (in the 8), but obviously that worked, as that was the only way the ed-dumbs writer could get the car to drift, as that is the easiest way to start a drift, even for ham fisted beginners (like the writer).

haven't tried any other methods in the 8 either, mainly because there are no good places to do it legally and safely, and i don't really feel like thrashing the tires like that.

the old e brake technique can make a honda *** drag(they seem to call this drifting) it will make a minivan drift more or less.

and bigOlundH, your pretty wrong as the 8 does not drift "easily" the rx8 drifts fine, but the suspension is made for gripping and the car is not balanced properly. but its definately not a good choice, a FC would own it in stock configuration(i can vouch as i have both an 8 and a 7 and both touge and track drift.
