noisy brake fix

whatup guys, i took my car into the dealer to get my squeaking brakes, i mentioned to them about he brake tsb, the guy didint like the idea since the beginning. He said, first we gotta see if they, (my mechanics) can fix it. So next day i get a call, telling me they were done, i asked them what they did, they said they just cut the rotors a little bit. I have no idea what this means, he said it would not affect performance. What do you guys think of it, if it dosnt affect performance and stops the squeaks, il be happy, i dont really care what they did. I gotta go see tom if it really did fix the problem.

It will be a temporary fix.

But, will it teach you to use the shift key on your computer?

I just took my 8 into the dealer for the front brake squeal. Much to their credit, they replaced the brake pads and shims, applied a new low noise coat, and did it all for free. Kudos to Cutter Mazda in Hawaii!

Cutting the rotors means they put the rotors on a lathe and took the top surface off. If they did a good job they would finish it up by smoothing the surface and leaving a "non-directional pattern". If they installed the rotor directly after resurfacing, then there are little grooves (you can fell) like a record. This can lead to a slight reduction in the life of the break pads & rotors and breaking distance.

I have a little over 40k on my 04 MT. I had the rotors turned at 9k miles and replaced at 15k. The second set of rotors have lasted quite well.
I do believe I caused the problem originally by washing the car and wheels immediately after getting home. I changed that practice and have had no more problems. Quenching the rotors, except for the area under the pads was stupid, I just wasn't thinking. We always roll our race cars several times in the first 15 or 20 minutes after coming off the track to make sure the rotors cool evenly and I'm bringing my street car into the yard with hot rotors, jumping out, grabbing the wash stuff and hosing down the warm rotors.......DUH!!
Hawk now has pads for the RX8, I'm going to get a set. Their race pads are the best. The street HP pads should be all that's needed for most. The autocross pads will be slightly better, but remember, with a street car the pads have to work when cold.
I have had no squeeling problems at all with mine. Squeeling usually comes from glazed surfaces, usually from braking too gradually and for too long a time. Try waiting a little longer to brake and then use the brakes a little more agressively, rather than braking lightly for an extended period.
Happy motoring!!

back in oct at around 11k my dealership replaced the front rotors and pads. i mentioned the squeeking every time i went in, just to have it on record. to my suprise one time they came back and said the rotors were warped. they were just going to throw them on the lathe, but i bitched (itll create less surface area which means greater heat buildup and less performance, and thats if they dont mess anything else up) and they replaced it all. broke the new pads in that night (thats fun) and had no problems...until about a week ago when it started squeeking again

im thinking of asking to pay the difference to upgrade to the ms pads, anyone had any luck w/these?

Told my dealer last week that the brakes were squeeking. He said he didn't have the parts in stock but would order them. They called Tuesday and the pads were in. They were installed and the rotors were turned Friday. No more noise, and the tech said I'd have less brake dust from now on. Now I can brake without everyone looking at me!

Buybrakes.com has Hawk HP pads at 59.00 a set, front and rear.
I'm gonna order a set and report back on what I think about em. They sure are great race pads.
I'm at 40k miles, so I know my OEM's have to be on their way to the trash can.

Your dealer was actually supposed to replace the brake pads for free. They shouldn't have touched the rotors. I had the pads replaced on mine (it's a different compound) and the squeak is gone. I really hope they at least did all that for free. It is kinda your fault for not researching and demanding they follow the TSB, but they should do things according to what MazdaUSA says anyway, not what they think they should do. In the end, it will cause you less of a headache. And ditto to what kellybrf said about the heat buildup. AND, I don't think there is a mileage restriction on this TSB, so long as they are the original pads.

I had the problem with the noisy brakes also. In fact I actually still do I have problem.
Well anyways i had my car about a year now and it has around 11k miles on it and it makes noises. (On the front right what I noticed.) So basically I checked the recalls on our 8's and saw that theres a recall for the front brakes. I called the dealer and they checked it out and then they replaced the front brake pads with new ones and added some sheet of metal? on it. For like 3 days it was fine with no noise. But now its been started to make some noise again. So now I don't know what I'm going to do. I'm either just gonna leave it like the way it is or go back to dealer or buy some spray thing that is suppose to fix it. I think.
