On your SCCA membership/renewal there are boxes you check off for which programs you are 'interested' in. Did you know that if you check off more than one, that portion of your 'dues' go to fund those aspects of the SCCA? I just found this out.

If you want your membership dues to go towards all the aspects you check off, by all means go for it. I'm a member of the SCCA so I can, for the most part, participate in SOLO. I'm just going to scheck off 'Solo' on my next renewal so I know that my money goes ONLY into the SOLO program. Road racers, I would think you would do the same checking off that aspect of the form.

Sure, if you're interested in multiple aspects of the club and wouldn't mind, go for it... but with $$ becoming an issue with the Solo program, those soloists on this forum might be better served if we make note of this... that we want our $$ going toward Solo and not other programs.

Feel free to pass this around. I'm not saying you 'should' or 'shouldn't' do this... just a suggestion. =)

That is good info for new or want to be members.... I have also heard, not confirmed, that if you do not check a box the money goes to club racing as a default.

Not mentioned is that if you plan on doing any SCCA National level events, you must be a member to participate. Locally, it can be a savings on your entry fee (New England Region auto-x is $30/members - $40/non-members (and some regions still require you to be a member to run).

You also get like 10 times the insurance coverage as non-members for med if you got hurt at an event.

You also get the SCCA magazine for free. There are also lots of new discounts on hotels, rental cars and some vendors offer deals on safety equipment and parts.

 

As an SCCA member I get discounts on my Solo event entries, I get a very nice magazine and as a Corner Marshall I get the best seat in the house for all types of racing. Working at the Petit LeMans, or the US Grand Prix, or the 24 Hours of Daytona, or Le Mans can be a blast. We always need more people to help out at races. Most of the time, the drivers really show their gratitude. Sometimes they pay you, and other times you get food and souvenirs.

Sounds like fun ... doesn't it? :D

 

absolutely the best seat in the house. i am also a marshall/ corner worker. i also work every year in montreal at the grand prix in june! lots o' fun!!! as a new rx-8 owner i am also looking to get back into auto-x. i just remember being a little intimidated and not very welcome in that club?

 

If you're talking about NER... things have changed quite a bit in the past few years. More runs on average, better people running the events and larger voluenteer base to keep the event running.

Ok...what Class Would I Be In? I'll Give It A Shot! I'll Check Out The Ner Website.

 

The 1st event is the 17th. I won't be there. Everyone and their mother is planning on going.. and I'll be down in Atlanta for the ProSolo.

It's gonna be a well attended event. (Looking at maybe 180+ people) You'll pretty much only get 3 runs in on the 1st day of an NER season as they work out all the kinks from a winter of dormancy.

I'm not saying you won't have a fun time... but after the 1st event is when things start settling in and the event runs smoother. It's almost like that for any organization that hybernates for the winter. :D

If you haven't modified the car in any way - you'd be in B Stock. Otherwise, it may be BSP, STU, or possibly some modified class depending on what's changed.

The scca.com website has the 2005 solo II rules online if you need to look at the general preparation allowances (hopefully this link will work):

The region's website should also be your reference to any other special classes that may be in use there. Have fun!

Ah, you'll have fun in Hotlanta! Maybe a win, too.

 

Unfortunately that isn't always the case. In my region autocross is hugely popular and as a group ends up with a nice profit--when then goes to help fund club racing. I don't have numbers but I believe almost all profit goes to club racing and relatively little goes to upgrading autocross equipment.

That is a shame. It should go to subsidize a yearend/awards party. I believe thats the way it works in Chicago.

 

KC is only talking about your natl dues, not entry fees, local events etc. When you pay each year they ask you your area of interest. If you do not check solo only the very small % amount from your dues that is set aside for programs goes to club racing.
