hope it's not a repost since I couldn't find anything with a search.

it's been discussed, but I don't know what thread off the top of my head. I do know that corksport.com has had this item for quite awhile now and it runs something around $1000
edit. sorry, it looks like this is a first time post. The intake I saw on Corksport.com for $1085 is the AutoExe ram air intake, not this RE intake.

The filter pipe looks to be about the same length as stock which is a good thing. The inlet air doesn't look to be obstructed by the filter. It appears that there is a nice machined inlet radius inside the filter. With a top on it, it is fully sealed off from the engine bay and gets air from outside. You can also see the inlet tube going down to the front of the car. It looks like a good design to me. 7 hp isn't an outrageous claim. If it weren't for the price, it would probably be worth considering. Otherwise they did it right. The other option is to just wait for Racing Beat's to come out which is very similar in design but will be about a third the price. This piece may look like it's all carbon fiber but that is just the top decorative layer so it does have a little on it. The rest is actually just fiberglass. This would be an easy box to build.

There's more to it than just the length of that tube. It's diameter has a large effect too. The factory duct isn't as large in diameter which mean it actually doesn't have to be as long to tune to a lower rpm. This tube should provide some gain in power at high speeds assuming that it is facing into the airstream.
There is no discussion of where the RAM is getting air from. THere is a 60000 Yen plastic version.
The ram does opens out as a shape of a suction cup. Like an extension of the original tube... as RG commented 7ps is possible if you increase the location of front tube(s).
RG, I think rotorenvy is asking: Since we have 2 tubes with the short one having a variable valve. Changing how does changing the whole thing affect the whole situation?
Wildcard in Oz land have installed a $30 plastic tube and use sCANalyser and get intake temp just 2 degree above ambient shown on the dash. I, on the other hand, consistently getting over 7 degree above ambient (even on highway). I think it is a very nice mod. But 70000
How about this?
http://www.odula.com/page/rx8_air.htm
It is half the 1/3 of the price although there is no change of filter .... :o
Still my questions are:
Will water goes into the box?
Will that affect tuning since the variable valve (in the short stock tube) is gone?

I didn't find any valve in the tube I removed. It's just another plastic tube, no valve inside there. You just changed a horizontal "L" shape tube into a vertical "L" shape tube. The main changes are the shape of orifice and the position of air intake.
Zaku, you said removing the side tube and put this in.... did you see the front short tube at the same time???
I have to take the bumper off and have a good look.
Where did you order it from? Can I acquire your help to get one?

The picture you attached can't be shown properly on my computer. I attach my photo. I removed this one to installl Odula tube.
RG zaku has a 4 port renesis. Does that mean he only has a low power engine intake and no front ones with a valve?
What do you think of having a single tube with no valve? Dangerous? Benefit?
We know that it is benefitical in terms of colder intake temp (cf. Wildcard).

I reckon rain wont be a problem. rain drops fall, they rairly go up. any small drops that do will be so small it will be like driving in fog. then they have to go through the fillter and my guess is anything that reaches the motor is going to be vapour.
the one thing that worries me about getting rid of both VFAD tubes is the system is tuned. at low rpm only the long intake path is used but at high rpm both the long and the short tubes are used.
will the long and the short openings together produce a different tuning to just using the short high rpm tube?
