Rx just cut out and died on me :(
Hi all
I was driving today normally on the way home , all of a sudden the whole engine cuts out on me. I just made it to my driveway.
When I restarted the engine, it sounded like it was going to blow up and rattled really hard. I didn't even rev it at all...
The oil light came on after the engine cut out...
I really don't know what is going on, I plan on taking it back to Mazda ASAP but will need to tow it there as I don't trust driving it any futher.
Any thoughs or suggestions?
would the car cut out with low oil? considering the light never came on.
Thanks

pop ur hood and check the oil level. mazda dealer told me that our car eats about 1 quart ever 500 miles. i know this was true for my 89 rx7, but for my rx8 i think 1 quart ever 1000 miles should be cool. but maybe every engine acts differently. just be sure to check ur oil level every 500 miles, or to make it easy to remmember, every 2 times u fill up gas. what the other guy said is true, the oil presure meter is not always correct, if u relay on that meter u could blow ur engine. our car is pretty high maintanace. hope everything is ok, but ur warranty should take care of u.
The oil light will come on if the engine stalls, similar to how it comes on before you start it. Still worth checking it but unless it came on before the engine stopped it's probably not related.
Were you low on gas? Could be a loose electrical connection or something like that perhaps? Update when you find out what happened...
