okay... so it slightly snowed last night... by the time i got up it was all gone i only noticed it because there was a little snow on my moms car.. the streets were completely cleared and dry... so i went out to do a few errands get some gas, pick up brunch... so im driving local streets stoping at diff places for about 45 minutes... during those 45 minutes i burned out/ fish tail/ skidded atleast 6 times... and it wasnt even at hight rpms i was shifting between 3-4k.... does anyone else have a problems like this with stock tires? my car is fairly new only 7400 miles... and was bought in like nov 2003..... how many of you still use stock tires? im planning on new tires any good suggestions?

 

There are many threads stating the crappy performance of the OEMs in snow. But they are a good tire for summer. I bought snows on another set of wheels and just swap them in the spring and fall. Of course I ride on Kumho MX's in the summer - much cheaper and better performance.

 

^^yes stock tires are not soo good.....and that's puting it nicly:p

 

The stock tires are performing exactly as they were designed to (on snow & Ice) so this is not a “problem”. Try doing a 100 yard dash on ice, can’t blame Nike when you wipe out.

It's not a problem with the tires. They're high performance summer tires. When it gets cold the rubber compound gets very hard and slick, and obviously the tread design isn't meant for snow. Therefore they perform exactly as you should expect them to in the winter....not well.

Wet and over 40 Deg. no problems.

I like the stock tires mine are going to last 25,000 miles.

 

Switched to Pirelli PZero Nero M+S for summer and winter driving - awesome in both situations.

 

ill check those out... and for those who use different tires on different rims... which ones do you use for which season.. i see alot of people just get diff rims for winter tires... but wouldnt you rather show off new rims for the other 3 seasons rahter just winter...?
