Since I've never had a car dealer install any optional accessories before, does the prices listed above included installation? If so, maybe that's why the prices seem high.

thats absurd. It certainly better include installation.

all I want is a little aluminum here and there and mp3s and I'm looking at $1496 in option costs + installation?

What!! Those little aluminum fender strakes cost $250, and while the wheel centers cost only $37, even cheaper than the valve caps????

excuse me i'm going to go and lie down in a dark room.

$545 for the exhaust and grill chromes?!?

bearing in mind that if that list hits the uk it'll read about £545
(car manufacturers seem to have an odd take on exchange rates)

standard car it is then.

i hope that is for the strakes on both sides. notice how for the wheel centers it says (4) so does that mean $37 for all 4 or $37 each and you need 4? if it's each your talking $400 just for those and the strakes. these guys have prices and my dealer still doesn't have accessories catalogs

Maybe Mazdaspeed of Houston will have the prices discounted on their site. I have bought from them in the past. Their pricing is certainly better than just walking up the the parts counter at the local dealer.

Worst case, I might try to leverage my dealer to match or even beat their pricing. I would think that this might be easier given the nature of the RX-8 versus buying say a Protege. I think it would be a nice "relationship builder" for the dealer to seriously consider this.

Wow! Looks like Mazda really think they underpriced the car and are trying to claw their investment back. I am not buying anything on this list (OK, maybe the wheel centers). No doubt in a few months some enterprising chap on this site will be building the strakes and exhaust finishers for 75% less (i.e. a fair price). Heck I bet an aftermarket lighted gearshift **** is less than the leather one here at $175.

well those center caps are made out of plastic and the valve caps are made out of Mazda's own Adamantium Aluminum, which is a more precious metal than platinum, hence the outrageous prices

It means 4 items for that price. Otherwise no number would exist next to the item. Personally I think they should sell the items individually so I can afford to buy one strake every month or two and an exhaust finish every 6 months...

When the accesories become widely available, you can try www.MazdaSouth.com and compare their prices to what your local dealers want. Many folks who have Miatas will use them instead of local dealers because their prices are so much lower. Usually I find they are between 20 and 50% cheaper. Same parts. Just a better price. If they don't have the part listed, just send them an email for a quote.

Hopefully it'll be the same for the RX-8 stuff.

(I've got no affiliation with them, but I am a happy customer.)

reeee-dik-yooo-luss

these are seriously outrageous prices. i'm hoping my dealership will offer a discount of some sort if i order x number of accessories.

looks like i'll be sticking with just the MP3, center caps and valve stem caps.

(i agree with pelucidor, mazda's covering their collective ***)

Pooman, i suggest if you ever plan on getting the appearance+rotary accent package, you should do that at the port to save money on dealer installation fees later on
