RX-8 hardly Mazdas elite anymore...
Okay so the Mazdaspeed 6 came out with obvious better performance numbers than the RX-8 regardless of weight. Now Mazda decides to take our last piece of identity. Styling. All we've got now is our rotaries. I'm kinda pissed to say the least.
We thought it wouldn't be, but it seems to be official.

It seems to be in German, and I think it may have been revealed to the German auto press.
Like I said, I'm pretty pissed. I wonder how G35C owners would feel if the Sentra came out in a 2 door version that looked like a mini version of their car. Or if Honda released a 23 thousand dollar car that looked alot like an S2K...

I don't know about you, but I still think it's better to have an RX-8 than this car - I mean, with this new MX-5, you are pretty much saying "My car's front-end is exactly the same as an RX-8, but to all but the very-trained eye, the back-end is barely discernible from any other miata. So, I have no originality."
And while the styling is no longer proprietary to the RX-8, I still can't see a super-compact roadster being the flagship over a sports car that stands out from all sports cars as "the only true sports car with a back seat and 4 doors."

The article says it will have an engine placed in the middle of the car (no idea what the english word for "Mittelmotor" is, but the statement is probably nonsense because because a "Mittelmotor" is usually placed directly behind the front seats, which doesn't seem to be the case here) and it will be available with a hybrid engine (now that's interesting).
Looks like a technically redefined Miata with RX-8 styling elements and of course we're still elite, rotary engine in a four seats sports car with suicide doors.
No need to be upset imho.
Edit: Btw, which newspaper published that article?

I can't really tell because it is a scanned page from a magazine, but I think there is a definite possibility it is photoshopped, too.
the entire car is shiny, but the hood and fron't bumper aren't reflecting light like the rest of the car.
It might just because it was scanned though.
And a miata isn't much different in price than the rx-8 anyway.

I guess that's not a chop if the article is from a real newspaper - it looks like the typical "Autobild" article and the plate (LEV for Leverkusen) is typical for Mazda promotion shots. The MX-5 logo looks pretty realistic too.

And a dang good one. Check out the small "top up" version - it is the same pic as the big top down one - which has had a "driver" pasted onto the windshield, and the wheels radial-blurred to look like they are moving!

First, thanks for the translation! But in german "Mittelmotor" is a term that is used for cars like the Porsche Boxter or Acura NSX for example. Technically mid-engine is between the axles, that's correct. But the RX-8, for example, isn't referred to as "Mittelmotor" in Germany.
