Have a chance to upgrade my rims to 19." I can get a good deal on Nitto 555's with that or Falken GRB FK451. Unfortunatley they don't carry the Toyo T1S Should I hold out for the Toyo's ? Are the Nitto's or Falkens that poor in terms of traction ?

 

falkens are the best bang for your buck. The 451s had overall good reviews, I have had experience with both (on falkens 451s now). I don't like nittos if you're looking for bang for your buck falkens or kumhos are good.

 

All the reports I've read from people with experience evaluating high performance tires indicate that the Nitto 555s are indeed that poor. I'd say they should be avoided unless they're free - then just use them to hold your wheels off the ground until you can buy real performance tires.

I have 555's and they slide out in the rear and squeal MUCH easier than the stock tires. You get what you pay for for sure

 

Oh yea, they are rediculous in wet conditions....

 

SO3s :P Hold out for SO3s. or at least Toyo T1s.

 

Kumho MXs are the best bang for the buck IMO

 

I have Nitto-555s and I don't have a problem with them--but I am able to break the rears loose around curves in a 'controlled' fashion--so I wouldn't go for them if you are into competition or drive fast in inclement weather. Next time around I'll try some other brand.

 

Agreed, I actually have used them in winter time and they're pretty damn good, I've also found them to be quite good in the wet, it's the dry traction that was lacking. Keep in mind this is with an AWD car. Don't forget the regular 555s are high performance all season tires, so it's not very fair to compare them to summer tires like most in this thread are doing.

 

I have Nitto 555's and love them. Not the greatest rain tire though.

 

nitto 555r i prefer but or 8 doesnt have enough power for me to get a set

Thanks for the advice. I wound up going for the Toyo T1-S's. Got them for around the same price. I really would rather have a highperformance summer tire, than a hi-po all season tire. Here in cali. there is just no need for all season tires, and I am not willing to trade off the traction benefite of a summer tire.

 

Good choice w/ the TOYO's... I ordered Toyo Proxes4 w/ my wheels...

 

Toyo Proxes 4 is the low end of Toyo's is what I heard. Correct me if I'm wrong but they told me that If I were to get Proxes 4 I rather get Nitto 555's.

 

I have Nitto 555 and they're pretty damn good. The downside is that its bad on wet surface.

 

nitto's here too... last a long time and not a lot of road noise. i have no idea who they are on the track, but do a great job for me as a daily driver.

 

I have the Nitto 555s cause they were free. Okay in good weather (I liked the Falkens on my Miata better though) be VERY careful when wet, snowy or even extremely cold and dry. They do however beat the snot out of the potenzas

 

My wallet, ears, and backside love the Nittos.

No. Please don't try to tell us that a Toyo Proxes FZ4 or Proxes4 is the same thing as a Toyo Proxes T1-S. They are very different models within the Toyo line - the tread compound is different, the tread pattern is different, the carcass construction is different - the only thing in common is the name molded on the sidewall. Every tire manufacturer has the capability to change all components and ingredients making up their tires to suit their intended markets, price ranges, performance, etc.

Even IF the Nitto tires are manufactured by a subsidiary of Toyo, it's ridiculous to suggest they're the "same tires". Each Nitto model will be manufactured to different specs, price targets, performance targets, and buyer targets - and I'd guarantee that Toyo would not let Nitto have the exact same tires as their premium performance tires like the T1-S or RA-1.

I think he is talking about our stock RE 040's. The Bridgestone line is called Potenza. Not really talking about S02's or S03's.
